** If this is in the wrong place could someone be so kind as to move it and let me know the error of my ways? lol **

Pretty sure I'm going to go for a B Class. The one I have my eye on has most toys, but not telephone pre-wiring for some reason.

MB want £400 for pre-wiring plus £131 for the cradle (6230i) - it would be more ethical just to mug me with a blunt instrument!!!

Are there places where I can get this kit at a lower cost and is it easy to fit myself? Or is there a better/more cost-effective way to achieve a tidy hands-free?

Finally, roof rails at £173 - better elsewhere?

Many thanks

Steve

Get a pre-wired one ... much less hassle. get a cradle from eBay though ... I just did - £35 !

Don't need / use roof rails, so can't comment.

What other options are you going for ?

Thanks

If I can get the one I am after it has comfort seats/lighting and vision pack/parktronic/luxury climate control/Myrtle Wood Trim/Power in rear/high capacity battery

Drove the 180 CDi SE today and whilst I like it (and the auto box is wonderful!) I would really like to try a B200. The one above is petrol and at what seems to be a very good price

Let me know what you think if you drive a B200CDI (Please don't tell me there's a huge difference :( :( :( ) Some nice options on the Petrol one there .. surprised it doesn't have the phone pre-wire !

The roof rails Merc always used to supply for the 123 and 124 estates were made by Thule . You can buy exactly the same rails in Halfords for a lot less.

Is the standard fitment 'discomfort seats' ?

The standard seats don't have lumbar support, angle adjustment for driver, or height adjustment / angle adjustment for the front passenger.

I'd say discomfort .. yep.

This *really* hacks me off with MB - offering comfort seats seems such a ridiculous admission that the standard seats are uncomfortable or inadequate (which on my W203 they certainly are). Merc's are all about comfort and it would surely cost next to nothing to fit comfort seats as standard.
I'm sure hardly anyone thinks to spec them from new and the seat comfort (or lack of it after a couple of hours behind the wheel) came very close to putting me off buying my car.

Its an £80 option ..... complete joke - absolutely agree with you !

Wouldn't have had one without it, thats for sure. Actually quite comfy when it is specified !

*EDIT* Doesn't stop me from wanting the sport seats with multi-contour drivers backrest though ! I hate that feeling of reading through the manual and seeing all the options described that I don't have !! :)

MB aren't the only suspects.

When I was buying my Boxster, one of the options was 'sports seats' (you might think a sports car came with these as standard ...). However, I'm glad I tried a car with them because I could not get my (not too ample) frame in them, let alone get comfortable.

I can highly recommend Thule roofbars, and all of their other kit. Get the silver aero bars with the T-track rather then the square ones.

Panoramic roof; Autotronic with 200 CDI engine, Flippy Flappy mirrors, built in child seat; fold flat front seat, cruise, climate control, extra carpets - in fact anything to make it more comforatble.

I'll be over to Luxembourg shortly with my screwdriver ... better keep an eye on those flippy flappy mirrors of yours!! ... are they Silver, by the way ? ;)

They all have the fold flat front seat (at least the UK models do) ...

... Its the 'easy-vario' seating that's optional here (where you can completely remove the passenger and rear seats.) ... although I don't suppose that would make the car more comfortable :D

By the way, you absolutely need the Brabus mini-GSM / Radio antenna ... to replace the standard 'whip' aerial ... just got one from Germany for mine .. much nicer :D Just screws in (and doesn't catch on my garage door!)

I need an adjustment that stops the other half of our fmaily lifting open the tailgate only to hit on concrete garage rooves, metal pipes and so on. then I won't have to say "Oh dear, we have another opportunity to go back to the body shop."

Or fit some protection to the things that do the damage (fit old carpet off-cuts?)

Update - the one I am speaking about went. However, I have found another B200 CDi SE that is probably better with most toys you can think of.....

Sooooooo - can you all offer up a little prayer for me that I manage to get it before anybody else sees it!!

Sym - If I get it you can take it for a spin when I am am next in our Midlands office! So get them hands clasped!!!

Sounds good ... we can race them side by side on a little private runway that I know of ;) :D

Good luck !
