As some of you may know, I am swapping my CL 500 for a VW Phaeton.

It's from a main VW dealer.

I have a plate on my CL I want transferring.

Dealer suggests it will be better if I go in person to DVLA (Birmingham) as he will have to wait 7 days and I can get it sorted there and then.

Drive across Brum in the morning rush-hour for an 09:00 opening.

Huge queue already by the time I get there at 09:15. It's the end of the month!

Seems well organised though.

Nice lady in DVLA says this is not the case and it always takes 7 days.

Managed to get Road Tax on the car's old reg ready to collect tomorrow, but I have wasted a morning.

Will have to phone garage now to get them to put the old plates back on too.

Assuming VW labour rates are around £100 per hour, should I press for at least a free service?

It's worth a try. In my book "nothing ventured, nothing gained":thumb: They can only say yes or no, they aren't going to feed you to the pigs or anything are they.:D

Brick Top: And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it's no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig ****, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

At the very least, with a little push. I'm sure they would be happy to provide a free service since they don't sell as many Phaetons as they should, more for those with acquired taste. :thumb:
Post some pics, Phaeton fan.

It's called "I can't be ****d with the ballache of sorting the paperwork".

Well, correct me if I am wrong, but while you would probabaly put-up with an honest mistake, in this case you feel that you have been lied to, and essentially the dealer was taking the p***. If so, then I can see why you find it very annoying, and rightfully so.

They will know that birmingham never do them over the counter... the only thing they do over the counter is a retention certificate onto a car nothing else relating to transfers..
A real pain in the backside.

VW dealer salesman virtually accused my of lying the other day when I said DVLA will send us a confirmation of transfer of ownership for our p/x (although I note it still hasn't arrived - last one only took a few days).

He also said he was glad our car was silver as he hated handing over black cars due to people complaining about swirls "that are in the paint, and nothing we can do about them".

I'm a bit interested in a Touareg, but I won't be buying it off him!

Never ask. Just say you will of course transfer the Reg won't you.
