I've seen it done and done it myself without issue. Best to put some padding on the jack first though.

I've done it too, but some on a US forum say no, so thought I'd check the collective wisdom of this forum.

I've done it many times. The diff casing is cast iron so can't flex, so other than splitting in two what can happen?

I always pad with a piece of softwood when jacking.
