Jag XF

Considering the interest that the XF has created I for one would be very interested in seeing pictures and may be the odd XF ownership update on this forum.

Friend brought his new XF over this afternoon and we all had a go in it.

Diesel is quiet on the inside but it sounds more of a taxi than an MB V6 on the outside.

Size wise it feels smaller than an E and bigger than a C. Rear space is reduced by the size/thickness of the rear squabs. Feels more like a 4 seater rather than a 5.

Transmission was very smooth. 2.7 diesel engine feels understated.

It was on 20" alloys and the suspension is firmer than my W211 AG. Feels very solid on the road and despite the 20" wheels and tyresize road noise was well suppressed. Felt well controlled and competent on rough surfaces.

However in terms of handling I felt it was tighter than my E but there was significantly less feel back through the brakes and steering and chassis. The steering and brakes are very light.

I could live with one. It's a good car.

But if somebody gave me a suitcase of cash and said go buy a new car I'd go with an E. When I've been away and I get back to the long term car park at the airport I just wouldn't get the same feeling walking back to the XF as I do to my MB. (ie. the XF doesn't pass the Dryce Homecoming test).
 
I was fortunate enough to spend the evening with three senior programme and project managers from the XF project.

I have a deeper appreciation of the car now, and the quality is an order of magnitude better than the last two JLR products (XK and Freelander). Reassuring.
 
My order on the XF has gone to Jul 21 Del as they sort the through the long list of orders, might get it for xmas.
