Jag XF

True, but did you read my reply? I wasnt refering to the money side of things, it was more the condition/appearance.

If your finances are so tight that you cant afford the difference between between buying a car for £900 and £1750, then a Mercedes isnt for you anyway by shear virtue of its running costs.

Yep, that was my point.

Just come back from my second test drive this time it was a 3.0 petrol nice but the 2.7 diesel is better. It drives very much like an S class very smooth and quiet, alot better than either the E or 5 Series or my SLK350. Very impressed with the overall finish on the car inside and out. The dealer I visited is not a big one but already they have sold over 60 XFs, they even sold the 2.7 demo, which is the biggest seller by the way. I advise anyone about to change cars to have a drive of the XF. Hugely impressed with the power steering they have got it spot on.
The guys at the dealership are very upbeat about the recent change in ownership but there again they do not have much choice.
Will I buy, yes I am doing the deal tomorrow would have been today but I had a flat on my SLK resulting in a new back tyre something I could have done without at this stage.

Considering the interest that the XF has created I for one would be very interested in seeing pictures and may be the odd XF ownership update on this forum.

A colleague of mine is also buying the 2.7 and let me come along on a test drive a few weeks ago. My experience was similar to yours, the ride quality is fantastic, smooth and softer than the airmatic on my E-Class. It doesn't quite have the kick of my car, but then it is a smaller engine. In terms of a luxury saloon I'd say they have got it spot on, not quite sure about how sporty it felt though....

Yes I agree if you want sporty then maybe the V8 or the monster XFR thought to be in the backround for next year might just fit the bill, but I imagine many buyers are fuel concious so the diesel fits the bill. I knew it would not be as quick off the mark as my SLK350 but I can live with that its still rapid.
I am still buzzing with the XF drive experience.

I saw a couple of XF's yesterday on the road.

I must say that the front is a bit odd, not to my liking.

But . . . . I did actually like the sides and the back was interesting.

Not something I would personally go for but I reckon that if they tweak the design a bit and make it less Mondeo-like at the front it could be a good looking car.

Just my 2p worth (walks briskly towards some shelter . . . . :o )

One drove past me today in BRG.

Like the grille, the headlights I reckon will be facelifted soon, they don't seem to fit...

The side and rear look nice, a little fussy in the detail in a Jag XJS kind of way but I liked it.

The car is much bigger in the flesh and has a lot more presence than a mondeo..

Thanks for the pics. But it could be any make of car in the world from Hyundai to Honda. Sad. A Jag should look like a Jag. And previous designers have always managed to do that.

I sat in one that was on display at that fashion show thingy in Birmingham last week. Very nice. I liked it. I liked the retro modern dashboard controls which looked like something off a premium hifi in the eighties. Nice.

I've seen one in the flesh and was not impressed, IMO its an ugly car, ungainly looking. The interior is okay, but the leather felt cheap. Its cheaper than its rivals and I can see why....

I'd stick with the E class.

Having only seen it at the show I cannot commnet on how it drives.

It looked nice, but then a new C class looks nice, and I'm sure the new E class will. Again all need to be in the right spec.

Not sure how residuals will hold up next to a Merc or BM? the X type and S type seem to lose an awful lot. Its too early to tell with the new model I guess.

Also agree to the comment that without any badges, who would know what it was. More and more cars start to look the same these days.

Just my view :)

Ever since I saw an early image of the production XF, I have wondered what was the inspiration for that dreadful radiator grille.

Now I think I have found it ...

There are different grades of the leather. The leather in the model I sat in (middle of the range) was fine, but I may be easier to please!!

I'm not a fan of leather anyway - even nappa - it's still bum-numbing in winter and bum-burning in summer!!

I believe the inspiration came from the first generation XJ6 IIRC?

Dont go onto a Mercedes forum and expect to read glowing reports on Jaguar cars.

LIkewise I would not go onto a Jaguar forum and expect to read post after post of how much they all love the new W204.

I can't see a single Honda design element or cue in the Jag.
I can see XJ6 influences however.
When the last S-class was launched people complained it was pastiche so clearly a new design path was required.
I noticed the XF has the same large windscreen rake and the same rear screen angle as the XK. Clearly Jaguar have laid
down a common visual family look which I think will be carried forward to the forthcoming large model XJ.
This is an important steep as it's long been the cornerstone of the Mercedes and BMW ranges.

If you really think that I can only conclude you are visually illiterate :(
