Doesn't the hydrogen just float away ( being lighter than air )

I never connect to the vehicle , always to the negative terminal :eek:
 
BTB500 is right, you should connect remotely to clear any hydrogen bubble surrounding the battery.

A friend had about 8 large batteries blow up on his boat when a lead came loose and caused a spark..made a mess.

In a closed environment like the boot, there is always the risk of hydrogen bubbles around a weak battery and as the hydrogen is leaking from the battery, you don't want to rely on it having been wafted away :devil:.

I'm not sure Bill would appreciate being mistaken for a foreigner in West London :D.

Did he get away unscathed? If so, he was a very lucky man, that acid can cause real havoc :crazy:.
