I'm with you and BJC. It is a lot of money, but it is a lot of work and you are paying a premium for peace of mind.

Since you have done a bit of research in this area, can you recommend a good detailer to protect the paintwork on my black estate with ceramic? I want a proper job that'll last for up to five years.

It does take a while. Car will be gone easily two weeks.

To be honest, if it comes to just detailing and ceramic coating, I'd just look in your local area.

Otherwise of course I'd recommend Topaz but they are in London and because I don't want to commute I pay for pickup and drop off.

Check detailer in your area and search the name in forums and Google and see what they say.

I'd avoid mobile service when it comes to coating. They need access to a good bright area without having bird poo dropping on your car mid coating session.

Topaz do have a great reputation,a very professional outfit. There Youtube videos are very impressive.

A friend had his F12 done and recently his DBS on inspection, fantastic workmanship.

You should've drawn a willy on the underside of the bumper in chalk, just to check their thoroughness... :)

Haha ... My dad used to do that in hotels to check if they clean. Like writing / drawing something on a fogged up mirror or shower door. 99.9% of the time it re-appeared after a shower.

im all for protecting a motor - to keep it almost mint, easy to clean and of course retain some future value. Personally for me, £11k to protect an E63 is too much - if it was something with strong residuals like a 911 GT3/RS etc then fair enough.

cant fault it though OP - you've picked the best in the business for the work, look forward to seeing the results! I had my E63s ceramic coated when i bought it last year with Gyeon products at Ti22 in Chepstow. Its my daily car and i clean it once a week so it was a no brainer for me. I should have considered PPF'ing vulnerable areas (front, arches, lower sills) but i just never got around to it.

It's not just protecting though :)

Anyway, the whole thread went OT where it was just about money ... Shame really

FYI - I asked to have this locked now - I will open a new thread for the picture - I really don't want to constantly defend my decision ...

I don't think that it did; reading it impartially, you just seem sensitive to it - probably because it's a significant outlay. That's okay; there are many on here that have expressed opinions both ways and they remain just that - impersonal opinions that do and should not reflect on your character nor your judgement. I'm glad that you shared the cost, in order to contextualise the value of the work.
