Just bought my 2nd Merc!

Thanks , yes it has so i was told - is it something that i might use do you think? :dk:

I just noticed the solid Badge on the front grill and the adjustment next to the gear leaver :) Make sure it works :)

Its not quite as advanced as the modern ones that can bring the car to a complete standstill and accelarate away etc but i recon it would still be pretty good on the motorway to use it.

I think with your model it slows down somewhat and then warns you if you are required to brake further.

Update - they're either doing the bodywork, service, alloy refurb, tax etc really thoroughly or they're having too much fun doing donuts in the car park with it! Got a call today saying they will call me on thursday with an "update"!!

Happy to wait .....for 2 weeks, so after friday i'm

I used to work for a company that prepared alot of Mercedes demo's and cars supplied direst to customers. One of those was for a Mr.J.Wilkinson (of the odd ball fame).A CLK 500 with the same spec as yours, give or take. His was in black and was one of the first into the country.

On my previous CLK500 I was told by Ollie (PCS) that this was not an issue and that the diesels only had this problem... I also had the exact same spec without 219.... marvellous car and still miss it now.... My 55 eats it though hands down!!

Also delete your centre silencer and get a straight through put in its place with the 55 back box... sounds awesome...

Oh well chaps, sometimes things don't work out. MB got most things done on the car as agreed pre-purchase but they couldn't get the paintwork on the rear quarter right and then tried to fob me off with a "touch up" job (in my opinion of course). So we all politely agreed to cancel the purchase and deposit duly refunded :(. It was all very polite so i have no problems going back again in the future.

So - what to do now? Back on the hunt - i really need to get this 5 litre engine thing out of my system. Preferably £10k, can go to £20k if i fall in love with a car!!

Firstly have i been spoilt by my current car - 53 plate W211 E320cdi now 140k miles - 1 year, 20k miles, and it has never missed a beat. I ask because i think i have been spoilt or been lucky, so i have been generally avoiding anything other than main dealer but this cuts down the search considerably.

All advice welcome;

Should i be ok going anywhere to buy as long as i get a specialist check done?

What to go for - R230 SL500 02 plate £20k, E500 saloon panoramic £10k, CLK 500 £10k, or something else??? All i know is that i need my toys in a car as i spend most of my time in it.

:D

How about going one better on the original plan - 209 CLK55

Great value for money at the moment - one of the members on here has recently bought a nice one in black :)

Personally I'd always go main dealer for the approved used warranty which is pretty good

I bought my last one from an independent and bought my own warranty which has been excellent but Tesco stopped doing their 'finest' warranty which only cost £425.

If you can find a warranty firm that you trust and he cost of the cover is half the difference between a dealer car and an indi then consider it.

I know you're right Will - i think i must have scottish ancestory though as i'm soooo tight!

What sort of price do you think for a 209 55 - £14k min.?

An E500 sounds a good choice out of those 3.

However Steve you are also right! I am very happy with my W211 at the moment. I have never bought 2 same models in a row but there's always a first. Also I know i like the model and i find it so hard to make time looking for a few one and trying to drive secondhand cars to see if they feel right is very difficult (i always feel bad for wasting peoples time).

Hmmmmmmm

First one seen on PH is exactly £14K:

211's are just so good. You said you could loosen up £20k. That means either a C55 AMG (203) or an E55k AMG.

Two very compelling motors methinks :thumb:

You'll fall for the supercharged 211 if you up the budget. No contest ;):thumb:

I know, hence why i havn't been in one. Thats why i've never been to Australia, because i'd never come back!

Thanks guys, getting my choice more honed in now. Seems MB may have done me a favour on the CLK.

Ok i'm off to look - either E500 (tight wad choice), or W209/W211 AMG ().

Any hints on how to test drive these sorts of cars without feeling embarassed for not buying it there and then?

I'm surprised they couldn't fix the wing - this is quite an old car for MB Direct to be selling, and if they don't fix it for you, you would think they would have the same problem with the next punter, unless they sell it to Stevie Wonder!
