Just got stopped for "speeding"

Hilarious write-up, classic comedy sketch!

On a tangent, your motor must be '100% legal' i'm sure they checked it out and gave it a good twice over to try and get you on something else.

The cheek of it though, talk about improving community relations, would hate to be that officer's kid(s) lol!

I'd report him as his lack of knowledge of the law needs pointing out to his supervisors...

The fact the the sign has been covered up in no way invalidates it - other wise we could cover all speed camera warning signs with bin liners and then they could never use their cash point cameras.

Only slightly off topic but that is exactly what Gwent police have done on the A449. I haven't seen a speed camera van in any of the laybyes since. Mind you neither have I exceeded the speed limit either.

I'd do unto him as he was going to do with you.

Report him, he's obviously enjoying the power trip a little too much and judging by his attempts to lie and deceive in order to get his way, he would be better placed in the criminal fraternity rather than masquerading as a respected member of the boys in blue.

It only takes one bad apple...

HAHA thats just made my afternoon reading that. However I would not have been happy had I been in your shoes and having my time wasted by an incompetent copper.

Why not report him for not giving you a ticket for not speeding? Not! :D

should I report the muppet or not?

I think you just have :D

Perhaps you could write to Chief Dibble purely to point out that because the NSL sign is partially obscured you had this discussion and that it could potentially save police time if he got the local authority to trim the hedge.

I'm still howling - what a great story.

Report him Andy BUT be careful as he and his mates may target you in the future for silly/petty matters!

Excellent Andy you told him... the question is can you be A*sed reporting him? if you can go for it, it was worth the chuckle factor just hearing about you proving him wrong.

I think it's a shame that the inappropriate actions of one or maybe two Police Officers in one part of a small country , undermines the British Police Service on a world wide website. They haven't battered anybody with their batons or killed anybody whilst driving erratically to an emergency. They, or he, has made a mistake. It is a very funny post and should be treated as such. End of. No harm done on this occasion, other than to the Officer's ego.

But they were going to book Andy for speeding. It's only because he was sure of his position and confident that they didn't.

Maybe they should have been quicker to accept a review of the situation and had better grace when wrong.
He gave them a get out by saying the sign was 'kind of hard to see' and 'partially obscured'.

They could have said 'thanks for that it is difficult to see, we will report it to the council'.

Dieselman, I agree with you entirely. There's always one bad apple,( sometimes more than one!) but let's not let it spoil the rest, eh? And just to put the record straight, if the Officer was reported for being rude, sarcastic etc, he would only be advised as to his future conduct. There is no smart alec computer either!

Honesty is always the best policy and what a shame this officer could not have accepted what you were saying. How badly concealed was this sign? I only ask because this officer should have been driving with due care and attention . The instant he was told about the sign was the instant he should have APOLOGISED. I would like to think the police have better things to do and I very much doubt they will harass our long haired hippy member :D. No point answering your question about whether you should report him, because you have already done the deed.

He was right to stop you and right to check out your claim about the national speed limit, but he was a galah to not apologise, and a right plonker not to apologise. From what your saying there was another police officer who witnessed this entertaining farce, but I wonder what there version of the event will be?

Your my mate and I'm on your side  :D I will even promise to visit you when they come to lock you up.

What's the bet that you get contacted by a senior officer who will offer to deal with this situation?

Take care
Kind regards
John

I think it's a shame that, bearing in mind the only contact your average 'middle England', generally law abiding citizen, is likely to have with the Police is over a traffic violation, and the Police (in my experience) tend to act like arrogant idiots.

They're especially bad with younger drivers, shaping their impression of the Police for perhaps the rest of their lives - you see it on those Police Stop type programmes and that's with cameras present. You can imagine whatthey're like when there are no cameras.

I was chased and stopped completely wrongly by an traffic officer in my MB a few mths ago, after he came very close to ramming me head on.
I'm a 40 something company director and was in a suit, and had a business associate with me who looks like he's quite important. The bobby looked about 19, so I took a chance and went for him, pointing out that he'd come very close to causing a serious accident. He backed down completely, but it bothers me that it could have turned out very differently.

The traffic officer I spent 11 hours with a few weeks ago, when I accompanied him on his shift, was very charming and nice. Was it 'cos I was there? No, I don't think so.

Did he deal with people fairly and firmly? Yes.
Did he have a sense of humour? Yes.
Did he have to be a family liaison officer? No, but he chose to.

As has been said, bad eggs everywhere. Not everyone is an ar$e; even parking managers can be nice people. Honest guv'

Report him. Likelihood is that you're already on their sh*tlist anyway.

Good for you Andy for standing up for yourself and reporting this chap.

What if it was a little ol lady who (as has previously been mentioned) would just take the ticket and suffer the points etc (okay - should might still be going 40 anyway but you get the idea!!:D )
