Quality piece of kit. The dealer said there are no text warnings of traffic jams. Err he's a bit misinformed there. Even if you are in normal map mode if you hit the tailback button and then click on "TMC Traffic Info" it will then show you pages of traffic info by text e.g...

M6 Motorway
J19 Slow traffic
J17 Tailbacks.

You get pages of 'em and if you are not tuned into Classic FM it chooses that station automatically.

The dealer also told me you only get the traffic symbols on the map if you are in NAVI mode. Also not correct - they appear on normal map mode.

In fact on my route into work it showed a warning symbol on M56 J2 so I choose another route instead (A34) and when I passed over the M56 I could see the tailback !

I love these gadgets - this TMC one works a treat !

I just wish the documentation was a bit better.

The Michelin guide edition does indeed put a load more symbols on the map.

What's that one ?
Try ignoring the diversions and drive onto a road with roadworks or some other indcident on, you get a voice warning about traffic disruptions ahead :)

Oh excellent !!! (Do you have to be in TMC dynamic nanigation mode ?)

Actually my missus does that already..."Look at that traffic jam ahead. I told you not to go this way. We are going to be late for this....blah blah blah".

I am always in that mode now, so I don't know.

From my office to my house there are very few roads except for the M62, so I am pretty much trapped on there no matter what traffic conditions there are.

Normally the sight of hundreds of brake lights would have me beating the steering wheel up and reaching for the Smith Kendons but now it has me playing with the comand unit, checking for the traffic reports and pretty icons on the map!

Does it only show the traffic icons on the motorway ? What about major A roads ?
AFAIK TMC is motorways only atm.

I've just done some digging. It should work on ANY major road where a traffic situation gets reported to the Traffic Message Centre. This then gets relayed to the station (Classic FM) who broadcasts it and it gets received by our units. A traffic report should reach our units approx 30 seconds after it is reported. The traffic message centre is in Altrincham.

Has anyone else seen traffic symbols on A roads ? (very very useful for the A34 bypass into my works).

I've never seen an A-road with traffic information yet but only been TMCing for a fortnight.

Another thing I've noticed is it doesn't always tell you which side of the motorway the traffic problem exists. This is fairly useless ?????

It does not include A roads.

Ordered my 2005/2006 Michelin disk last night. Should be here monday apparently! First thing I'll do is make a single backup of it as at £180 its the most expensive CD I've ever bought!

Our Pioneer system has a seperate tuner that is locked onto Classic FM. You do not hear the program, it is a dedicated item and the main tuner can be on any station of your choice. In my part of the world there are not any motorways. The M5 ends at Exeter and yes TMC covers other roads. Glad to hear you have the system, one day the 211 will have it!

Regards,
John

Comand has a second tuner that surfs the FM band for channels, that's it! If you want to use TMC the main tuner has to be tuned to Classic. That has to be one of the stupidest features I've ever seen and it's probably the most disappointing thing about comand, why limit it so much when it's already got two tuners, the second tuner could surf AND pick up TMC data at the same time!

Sorry if I'm missing something that's stated elsewhere, but have you got the MB disc (from an MB dealer) or the Michelin disc?

Also, is this for the DVD based Comand system (as in my 2004 facelift) vehicle?

This is a teleatlas disc, on CD for the comand 2.0/2.5 units found in 1999+ W163/203/208/210/215/220/230 as far as 2003 IIRC.

Shude you do remember correctly. :)
