Just a quick note to let you know about Dell, I normally order everything on the web as I thought you got the best deals on the internet.

A while ago a friend of mine told me that if you ring Dell they will allways do you a better price for a machine plus have it built and posted to you in 48 hours as opossed to two weeks online:eek:

I brought two machines as I'm a greedy B*****d (no one was for my parents)

I specced them on the web and each machine came out to £552 inc delivery and vat.

I called them up today and after ten minutes of haggling with a guy in mumbai I had them down to £457 delived in 48 hours!

Anyway just to let you know not all the best deals are on the net.

What is the spec on these machines?

We've just switched to Dell as our approved corporate supplier (at the university I work at) for the next 3 years. 30% discount on personal orders is great

However you do have to watch the spec carefully - a lot of their systems come with on-board graphics rather than something that can handle gaming.

I always buy Dell for the compaines that i work for as you simply cannot beat their prices and onsite support.
Incidently I have just come off the phone to them, One of the laptops I look after has been abused by a sales rep and needs a harddrive replaced. It will be here tommorow! that service.....

I fell for that, so I convinced myself I needed an alien for games.

The thing to watch with Dell is that they sell an awful lot of computers that belong in museums. Check the spe carefullybefore buying. I've always bought my own parts and built my own systems for the past several years. If you make the right purchases you can overclock the system to provide performance that can exceed the performance of standard machines that use far more expensive parts.

Their corporate support is excellent but their support to private customers is shocking.

I would never recommend anyone buy dell equipment for personal use, when your one year of warranty is up they simply refuse to do anything except sell you a brand new PC.

when I bought my Dell three years on site warranty was included in the price - to all intents and purposes I was a home user and I must say that their service has been absolutely first rate.

nextday on site has been just that the two times I have had to call them.

would I recommend buying a Dell - yes even though the ordering process was a pain

Would I buy another - yes without a doubt

Andy
