key fob

hi guys.. im not sure if i am posting this in the correct section so if not i do apologise.... Ive got a 2000 W202 and it has one of those 3 button electronic key fobs.... but just now, the key at the top end of it comes out prett much straigh away with hardly any force and with out releasing it.... would i need to purchase a new fob or is there any little parts inside i can change??? any advice would be greatly appreciated

If you decide to buy a new one. You need to get it from the dealer. Keep in mind that it costs more than £200.

yeah ive heard they cost that much cos i wanted the new chrome one but changed my mind after enquiring about the price! i rele dnt want a new one but i may have to as i might lose the key fob now cos the key comes out without any strength... the spair fobs are the slightly longer and odd looking ones and i dnt wna use one of them as they look rubbish

No - as far as I know they cant be programmed to your car

ohhhh that sucks..... i may need to order a new key fob from mb then! i really dont wanna do that! what a crap design. it was bound to happen one day! its not like i got a massive bunch of keys either... fromt door key and the round mb logo key ring

As your key fob is damaged you can buy one from ebay, that is in good condition, and swap the inners of your defective fob into the one from ebay.

The inners consists of the Printed Circuit Board and the battery holder, as said, the inners of the ebay key wont work on your car but swapping the shell over to your damaged key fob will solve your problem.

Hi, I too need a new fob, it still works, but is cracked, what i am going to do is buy one from ebay, then put the internals from my key in the new one, I will let you know how i get on.

yeah ok mate that would be great! also if you could talk me through it that would be great too... dnt wna break it! lol! wonder if you could buy a chrome key fob or not!? :s

The plastic key inners won,t fit the later chrome key.
Be careful when buying a second hand plastic key, as there were a couple of different types, long body and short body, and there were two button versions, as well as three button ones.

cheers mate.... ive got 2 long body ones at home as spare and think they look S*** hence for wanting another short body one..... ive clocked that there are the 3 button and 2 button types but thanks for pointing these facts out.... mucho appreciated

When you remove the battery compartment there’s a small white piece of plastic that locks the PCB in place, then the board pulls straight out, it’s hard to describe. Your key could be slightly different to the one that I did…an E270 2003.

What I did, I butchered the broken key fob by slowly and carefully cutting it open without damaging the PCB using tiny snipers until I cut enough away to get the PCB out, in this way you will gain a complete understanding of how the PCB fits into the shell and so you will be able to remove the ebay PCB easier as you will know how it fits inside the shell.

As already said, ensure that you get the exact same fob as your existing one.

HI guys just thought id update you on the outcome!!! went to mercedes-benz of milton keynes and the guy at the servie desk gave me a new batter part where the key blade clips into and it was sorted!!! no money and no new key !!!!!! RESULT!!!
