Cla 200d shooting brake AMG line
Hi all. I got a 2016 cla200 shooting brake, when I had the car you had to put the fob into the hole and turn to start it.
Originally on the spec, it did say keyless but when I asked mercedes they initially said no.
However I've seen these things online that fits over the key part for a push start thing, and when I rang mercedes, they became all defensive and said if my car needs a key to start it then I can't change it. He never even asked for model number or even my reg. Couldn't wait to get me off the phone.
My friend said it looks like it's all set to go for keyless entry and start but I dunno where to start.
Can anyone help???
Many thanks.

The keyless start button could be prised out with a fingernail revealing the slot for the ignition key - which then worked as expected.
It’s possible that someone has removed the button this way.
Could even be hidden in the glovebox or somewhere around the car.

But is there a way to activate the doors by keeping keys in my pocket. I have to press the fob to open the doors but I'm not sure if it can be a simple activation somewhere or somehow.

You should be able to just pull the handle and it would unlock. To lock it, they would be a square(ish) indent on the door handle you put your finger on.

Yeah I got the black square thing on the door but if I try it, nothing happens

There are/were two types, keyless entry & start and keyless start. On older models (certainly up to approx 2020, maybe later), it was possible to remove the 'keyless start' cover/button which was over the ignition key slot, disabling keyless start and meaning that it was neressary to use the key.

I suspect your car had the latter, ie keyless start, not keyless entry. It should be explained in the handbook.

I did look at all the things on the car via the bin number and I don't have it by the looks of it. Nothing listed on any of the codes. Gutted now.

Ive had a car with keyless start and prefer not having it now. Havent got start stop either. Thats two pluses

I wouldn’t be “gutted”

This means that a goon with a laptop can’t copy your keyless open and start activation and drive off with your precious motor “Land Rover theft” style.

There are a lot of keyless open / start customers who rue the day that they bought, and subsequently lost, such things.

Is it such a chore to press the button on the key? 🙄
