keyless-go-less-S-Class

Just for the record on these navigation units, all of the makers make a power supply that can be hard wired, therefore doing away with the cigar lighter socket lead, It is possible to also add a satellite antenna under the plastic dash or in the form of a tax disc in the windscreen.

This has the benefit that it could be left in the glove box during short rest or stop without unplugging it or even turning it off with out the wires showing

Brodit make the best dash fittings.

I would suspect now that the car has been used for a few demonstrator runs to clock up that mileage, and that it was a demonstrator at another branch

Tracker Response is a wonderful thing. I now know exactly where the 127 extra miles came from, road by road, minute by minute (mostly between the dealership and a residential address known to me). I await an explanation from the dealer.

You are more patient than me, I would be at the dealers demanding (politely but firmly) to keep this vehicle in the interim while they order me a new one, rather than keeping the second hand one that they are trying to fob me off with!!!!!

All along this thread i find their treatment of you quite frankly appalling. When you have resolved this I would name and shame them.

I am sure MBUK would be very interested to know about this "extra" mileage.

A member of staff has been using it, thats my guess , but good news anyway.

gbjeppm: Indeed. I shall post the dealer's name, with the resolution, one way or another, at the conclusion.

television: Yes that's my working assumption. I even know where they do their weekly shop, and from the phone ID have a pretty good idea of their first name.

Pleased to hear this happened after the Tracker was installed.

First time i have seen one be of use, keep us posted.

Perhaps they were just running it in for you :)
Years ago while at college I worked part time in a garage in a posh area and local wealthy people would order their cars (various makes, including a Rolls Royce while I was there) through the garage and they would run them in, sort out the initial teething troubles, then deliver them.

Ok could be, but little runs when new is the worst that you can do

And some cash back/free servicing if not I hope (the latter being a cheap way for the dealer to make you happier).

Great things, Trackers!

I would personally be rejecting the car at this point. I have purchased three brand new cars in my life, two of which were perfect but the third was not, and I simply said "due to this obvious fault, which I do not expect in a new car, I am rejecting the car" and walked out of the dealership (who called me later and arranged for a brand new car two days later with a free radio upgrade). These were not Mercedes cars, but I would surely expect this level of service from a premium quality brand!

New S class ordered with an item described as "Keyless Go access/ignition system". Keyless access works. I am blowed if I can find out how to activate keyless go. It seems to me the place where the ignition key goes should be covered by a silver metal disk that should need to be folded back to put the key in (as far as I can make out from the manual). There is nothing covering the ignition key hole at the moment. Current dealer response is "oh I'm not sure about that, I'll ring back" (which they didn't). The previous S class had the button on the (now non-existent) central gear shift. Am I correct in assuming that (a) I am missing the keyless go button (if not the electronics) and (b) it should actually be delivered attached to the car, as opposed to somewhere else.

Next question: If I order a car with delivery on the back of a lorry, should I expect it to have 150 miles of the clock, and an existing mobile phone pairing with "Gazza" (whoever that may be)?

Next question: If I ordered a road angel as part of the spec, should I expect it to be fitted, as opposed to in a cardboard box in the boot?

I can't beleive they even gave you the car without a full demonstration of controls/features etc.
When I got mine I had to sign that everything was demonstrated to me before I put the key in the ignition!
Someone competent should have came to your door with the car.
Incidentally I know of someone who ordered COMAND with their new car. The COMAND was with the car.........only in a box in the boot:eek:

Seems highly unacceptable to me. When buying a car at this money you should be getting the red carpet treatment. Champagne, flowers, etc, etc. Even Honda give a bunch of flowers!

Each issue on its own is no big deal but add them together and I'd personally feel aggreived. I'd call MB UK and politely pass on your concerns.

You do not deserve this treatment!

Here in the Jolly old USA we have a legal concept
of recision:the ability to rescind the legal obligations
of a contractual agreement...based upon failure of
one of the parties to honor the contract.

Whomever your dealer...they've defaulted on the
contract...We call it: "Bait and Switch" over here,
for obvious reasons.
They have attempted to shove a used car onto you
as "New".
As I see it you have a duty to future Mercedes
owners in your area to put a stop to this kind of
chicanery!
Make them come pick up the "Dealer Showcar".
And Tell them to have your NEW Mercedes ready fresh from the factory posthaste!

Until post 20 I thought you had ordered this car as a new vehicle. When was the order cancelled? It sounds like you are still the first registered keeper, is that correct?

You have been treated appallingly and I fear you are being taken for a sucker by this rude and incompetent dealership, I say rude because you are being lied to and deceived. I should also point out that I rarely speak out against dealers but in this case I am making an exception.

Why are you being lied to?

The dealer has told you that the mileage was put on the vehicle during road testing by Mercedes-Benz in Germany. That is a lie and they have given you a second-hand vehicle. It is second-hand because someone else has used it as their own.

The dealer will now try and wriggle out of this by offering you some sort of compensation. I am someone that does not suffer fools and no amount of flannel, or free servicing would placate me. Remember this car is now used and if you hand it back, someone, somewhere will loose thousands and thousands of pounds. The dealer was right to meet your request of home delivery, but the car should have arrived on a truck with the sales person holding a nice bouquet of flowers. They should then have spent maybe an hour or so demonstrating the various controls of this executive vehicle.

I would be in the managing director's office educating this person on how to behave. They need to know you cannot be lied to and they need to know the correct way to treat ALL customers, be they buying an A-class or your very nice S-class.

Return the car and watch them squirm  :) Pay back is always best served very cold.

Apologies for my OTT message, but if my dealer can offer a first class service then so can yours.

Yours sincerely
John

If it was being used, surely it was already registered - to the dealer?

Messy situation, but still send it back.

It can read like that although it is possible the vehicle might have been used on trade plates.

At our local dealership new cars have paper seals across the doors to prevent anyone even opening the doors to look at or sit in new cars. Obviously the cars need to be PDI'd etc hence the paper seals, but there is no way they will be used or sat in by prospective customers looking at similar vehicles.

This stinks and I would have absolutely zero sympathy with the dealer and would be deaf to any pathetic excuse that they will inevitably dream up or should that be make up or concoct? = to invent an excuse, explanation or story in order to deceive someone  :)

I do not that trade plates would have been used, if the car was seen in a supermarket car park, the firm could risk loosing them. The law is red hot on their use

:) I am merely attempting to cover all the bases. :) I think it fair to say we have all seen trade plate usage being abused and if anyone disagree's then I say :p :p . It is a rarity to see the correct mounting of trade plates which are normally dumped on the rear parcel shelf and the front dashboard.

This vehicle has been used by someone for their own use which to me makes it second-hand, there is NO excuse now that Tracker evidence has been obtained.

I actively reject a car with any more than 20 miles and want a good explaination if there is more than 10 miles on the clock.

150 means its been round the block a few times on testdrives. Thus youve bought a demo car for top dollar..
