Hello All,
I've recently bought a '04 S600 from a good friend. In all his time owning the car the keyless go has not worked. None of the functions seem to work (e.g. door unlocking of any doors or press button start from the gear stick) although pressing and holding the button on the keyless go card will show a green light. I've changed the battery. I really have no idea where to start in diagnosing and fixing this.

Suggestions of where to start, most welcome.

Do you really want to fix it? It may have been disabled deliberately. I think some people did this because of security issues - you can never be sure the car is locked because as soon as you get near it opens again. Also if your passenger has the card with them and leaves the car you wont be able to start it. Personally I think its more trouble than its worth but putting it on STAR would probably tell you where the problem is.

I see the downsides but, nonetheless, would like to get it fixed. Cheers.

I would get it plugged into Star and have a look to see if it's been disabled through there.

biturbo - well done!

I agree: personally more trouble than worth and same for self-closing doors (seriously....why?)

I have no idea, what may be wrong, but in my opinion it's a very worthwhile option. I love it and really miss it when I drive cars without it.

My wife was of the; its a waste of time attitude, until the first time she was able to open the car whilst carrying bags full of shopping without having to find the keys. Since then she thinks its a great feature too.

A well placed toe of a shoe, combined with balance, can open the door :-)

The main problem with self closing doors is when getting in other cars I often only half close the door. I also hate slamming doors of all kinds and, when learned, the soft closing door technique is much more agreeable than in non-equipped cars. A minor thing in life, I agree, but of such things is life made.

As for the keyless go, I'll get a STAR system hooked up to the OBD. Thanks.
