Kickdown

Let me guess, I've probably never used it but if you set the cruise for the speed limiter mode (not the max speed for winter tyres), the car does not exceed the set speed even at full throttle, unless you press the pedal to the kick down point?

That's it. As I said, great for roadworks/speed limits on the M25
 
Just a clarification, I meant I've probably never used the kick-down (don't have manual but still) combined with speedtronic. Honestly I seldom use even speedtronic.
 
My E300D Estate is a fairly sedate car but once after the traffic lights changed to green, I nudged "re-engage" on the cruise control stalk by flicking the stalk towards the steering wheel (away = disengage) and all hell broke loose. It seems to try to get up to cruising speed asap regardless. It was a bit of a shock to the system as i was not expecting this kind of behaviour! This isn't kickdown as we know it (Jim) but it's very close.
