Hi all. hope everyone has recovered from christmas (financially I mean :D )

I have a knocking noise from the front suspension on my clk. I have replaced both lower ball joints and I am thinking it might be the upper suspension arms.

I know it's a full arm. The question is do I need any special tools to replace them?

It's a fairly heavy knocking but does anyone have any other ideas it might be?

your replies would be appreciated as i need to order the arms tomorrow for them to arrive for the weekend.

I am ordering the arms from GSF. They should be ok shouldn't they?

Is this whilst travelling straight ahead or turning?

I'm a bit lost when you mention the upper suspension arms? I thought there was just a lower arm bolted on to the sub-frame. What part is it in this link?

thanks for your response. the part isn't on that link. have just had a look on the parts catalogue and cannot come up with it. give me a few mins and i'll take a picture and download it brb

By the way, it's an up and down knock, mainly straight ahead. It isn't dependent on the application of any steering lock.

I would agree with Rodger Dodger and the anti roll bar links and bushings . I had a knocking noise in the front of my merc and the wifes mr2 , both cars where cured by replacing the links and bushings . The links for the merc where 9 euro each while the links for the mr where 45 euro each ! makes you wonder , people reckon a merc is expensive to maintane and that a toyota would be cheap to run

This is certainly the area to look first.
Any wear should be evident.
They're usually inexpensive and not too-difficult a job.

Cheers.

Right then. The part I THINK is causing the knocking is this one.jpg

looks a bugger to do :(

sorry about the quality of the picture, too late!!

Ok. Will have a look there. hope so, the reason was stated in previous post. Thanks all :D :D

Won't be the anti-roll bar links on the front of a 208 ;) - but could well be the bushes.

Cured the clonk on my 202 by simply removing and re-fitting the bushes the other way around (part 8 here)

cheers for that, will have a look saturday

The link in the photo is the upper control arm. I'd be very surprised if the knock was from that as it's not really a stressed joint.

To test the ARB links grab the car by the edge of the roof and rock it violently from side to side or drive over a poorly surfaced road.

The link you show is part #50
