Anyone tried this stuff? For £12 I thought it was worth a try.

Having just had the joy of buying a new foglamp for my C63 at £115 for the part and then having to spend some time with my head in the wheelarch changing it this w/e, I decided to order some of this stuff. Hopefully it should stop me having to replace one again. They do offer lots of strange colours but I was more interested in the protection aspect rather than the cosmetic.

I was surprised the foglamps are glass seeing as they are so low to the ground.

Where are the foglamps on a W204 with the DRL LEDs? Or do the LEDs double as the fog lamps?

I shall report back once fitted.

The latest shape Honda Civic foglamps are prone to cracking easily and members on the Civic Forum are putting on a clear plastic / perspex cover ontop of the foglamp held on by double sided tape. It works and is not noticeable unless to get down right on the ground and look at it.

Yes, it was the civic forum where I found out about this stuff. Although it is purely a film. My neighbour has some plastic covers on his Volvo which after 2 years now look horrible and yellow.

I used it on wife's Honda Jazz, for the reasons above (must be a Honda thing). Easy fit on her car as the trim comes off the front of the lamps with a single screw from the front. I made a template, cut the film and stuck it on. Replacing the trim covers the edges, so the template was probably un-necessary. Looks fine after 18mths - you wouldn't know it was there.

I always intended to do the MB too but it would be much more difficult unless you just stuck it on the visible part of the lamp. I suppose it would still do the job, but might start to peel off.

Do a search for Helicopter tape on ebay it's the stuff they stick on helicopter rotor leading edges, it's crystal clear will not yellow as tough as old boots and can be removed easily without damage.

Interesting - I've never heard of that before.

The thing about Lamin-X is it's quite soft, and fairly thick, so I guess the theory is that it will absorb and spread impacts.

Be sure the Helicopter tape you use is Polyurethane Material. There are some tapes on the market claiming to be "Helicopter Tape", but they are PVC or vinyl. These two types of tape don't like heat and will turn yellow.

Well I fitted it over the weekend, along with the new foglamp (what a ballache that was).

First impressions are it looks good. It was very hard to cut neatly as it is the thicker 40mil stuff but once on the car it looks OK as the lamp surround covers the edge.

Delivery from Lamin-X was good although Royal Mail delayed the supposed next day delivery. Nice to see that the next day postage charge of £5.49 was entirely used up on the postage as the label said it cost £5.60.

Time will tell how well it stays put and remains clear.
