Laptops from PC World

Thanks. When you click the link for that deal it's out-of-stock

My theory is that if I buy the PC World one I can take it into the shop and shout at someone if it goes wrong.

Friend of mine kept shouting on them for like 3 months on his desktop.
maybe just a bit of bad luck...

...Close on their heels believe it or not is Acer in my opinion. For corporate use, requirements differ and its a whole different ball game.
...
PC world is the last place I'd buy a laptop from as the warranty sucks.

have been using company Acer for 3 years without reinstal of systems.
it's bit slow now but no probs at all

HP all the way - next day collection service mostly - remote assistance whenever you need it.

The Z range (FZ / TZ / SZ) are definitely business grade. Prefer tosh though.

Mine is an SZ Paul's is an FZ (IIRC) and both have been fine, even survived a few transatlantic flights! Mine is a 13" and is perfect for this kind of thing at home and it's small enough for carrying around, it fits with the power lead into a small laptop bag which goes as 2nd item on US flights which is a bonus as we prefer to fly with just hand luggage!

I have an Acer at work on my desk which has been fine for the last year but it's a 15" and is a lot heavier than this one and not nice to carry about!

This one stays on US settings so I can use my Zune and Zune pass without Microsoft having a hissy fit cos I'm in the UK and all is well with the other software I use on it inc 2 versions of Quickbooks (US basic and UK server based) so no worries there either!

Well, it arrived this morning.
I think the longest it's worked for has been about ten minutes
I keep getting this screen...
Have I been robbed?

Hi

A new Dell Vostro 1000 is £258 delivered. Good job although battery only lasts about an hour. Go to Dell website and do a search for Vostro 1000.

Great little computer, only thing it lacks is Office.

Send it back - cheap system boards used!

This is what Microsoft have to say about the error message you are receiving:

"Stop 0x7F usually occurs after the installation of faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or in the event that installed hardware fails."

Personally, I would send it back - I am a believer of you get what you pay for...

Want a Ford? or want a Mercedes/BMW/AUDI?

They both get you to work, only the latter does it in more comfort and with a lot more reliability as its been designed and put together properly!

PC World = CarCraft

plus if you have any problems like hardware faults takes them upto 28 days to fix even if just hdd faulty, they wont replace have too send away.
But they will swap laptops/monitors with dead pixels on the spot - my daughter used her christmas money to get Advent sale laptop. Grated going into PC World, especially went I took it back, but I was pleasantly suprised when they swapped with out any fuss.

They refunded my money in the store without any problem. I ordered another idendical one from the website.
I'll let you know if the faulty one was a one-off

how long had you owned it, generally if over 4 weeks is when they get fussy, and might depend if they have same models in stock.

But good on ya getting it swapped.

Was within 24 hours.

As others have said anything bigger than 14 doesn't really cut it as a road machine - really just a portable computer. I've got a Dell D610 13in, nice and small and 6 hour battery life (extended battery) charger often doesn't travel with me.

I used to have a new Merc c class and then an e class (v8 5 litre job (03reg)). My ford focus is quieter and more refined inside than either! (Seriously!) The ride is better too - even though my e had airmatic...which failed 4 times and a few rattles in both mercs too.
No rattles or failures from the ford.

So, I would counter with the former!

ah, btw - I have a Sony Vaio thingy with dual core etc got a nice fingerprint recogntion gadget just below the mouse pad so you can log in by swiping your finger and then once you have visited a website which requires a password you can store it so you only swipe your finger to log in from then on... Works really, really well! Seriously saves time. Bluetooth is useful too and intergrated camera - not bad for a work laptop (they gave it to me a week ago)

Portable computer is what I'm after. At 3.2Kgs it's not that heavy and it means I can spend more time at the business doing computery type stuff ;)

Pay by credit card for the added protection!
I bought a laptop from tiny about 4 years ago - fairly high spec (but only average quality) - cost over £1000.
Minor fault with PCMCIA ejector button resulted in return of laptop for repair. Fault occurred again shortly after repair.
Tiny customer service useless & did not return calls so rejected the machine & claimed full refund. Still no response from Tiny.
Claimed refund from credit card company. Initial rejection of claim saying I should speak to Tiny. When I gave them a log of my failed contact attempts I was given a full refund.
Still waiting for Tiny to collect the machine - it's still going strong!!!

When buying, in addition to usual warranty, try to get "system restore" software included. This is useful for returning machine to factory condition and is better than windows system restore.

Tiny don't exisit anymore, went bankrupt, I think Time Computers took over there warrenty but 4 years!

My mistake, credit Card company gave refund, but still!!
