Well , after buying the car around October of last year ( so long ago that I can't remember exactly when ) I finally took delivery of the 1999 W124 E250D during the early hours of this morning !
According to the V5C , it was first registered and declared new on 15th Feb 1999 and comes on an S plate , with the Mercedes-Benz of India sticker on the landing panel .
The car was transported down to Edinburgh late last night , where the vendor had another car to collect and take back up to the far North .
Unfortunately , due to a mishap loading it onto my tow dolly , the front bumper of the W124 was damaged , so ideally I will look for a replacement bumper but this is low on the list of priorities - getting the car legal and roadworthy after its two years on SORN is the first order of business ( new battery , tyres , brake pads & possibly discs , repair to exhaust which has been broken where pipe enters back box but not rotten , new wiper blade - then whatever else MOT picks up ) .
Bodily , apart from the bumper mishap ( I took delivery on Fri 13th after all ) it is very good with no rust evident anywhere , one stone chip on the bonnet , the star missing from the bonnet and a small dent just below the rear number plate .
Under the bonnet , everything is reasonably clean and tidy , if not spotless .
The grey leather interior is almost as new , with only some very light scuffing to the drivers seat bolster , which should re Colour OK . The air con works and there is a Sony audio unit with 10 disc changer in the boot , plus a Nokia car kit which will be replaced by the Bury one for the iPhone .
No photos as yet since I got the car home to my mum's at 3am , and it needs a good wash to do it justice - but these will be uploaded when I get the chance .
I will post updates as and when .
Besides picking up the W124 , I also got a pile of stuff for my W126's , including a genuine new front wing still in primer with MB stickers ; front & back bumpers for my 500 which he had spent a fortune putting all new chrome onto , a replacement pre facelift front bumper for my 280SE as the one on the car had been damaged before I got it , and a boot full of small parts I have yet to go through .
