SLK 320
Hi,
have a 2001 slk 320 that intermittently keeps showing the BAS ESP light on the dash.

A good scroll round the web has pointed to the lateral motion sensor.

Can anyone throw any spanners in the works here or if not does anyone know where the best place to get one from is?

Before you start throwing expensive components at the problem, have your car put on a STAR to read the fault codes. A good independent MB specialist should have one and will be cheaper than a dealer.

now the question is where you are?as there are many good indy on this forum all around the country

Solihull, near Birmingham.

Can anyone suggest a good Independent?

Olly or Acid MSL in Birmingham as I know.ask them

They aren't far from me so will give them a call tomorrow.

While on the subject of repair shops, does anyone know a decent bodyshop around Solihull Birmingham?

Have the usual bubbles around the arches and a slightly larger bubble on the bottom edge of the front wing over the bumper.

Bought the car for my girlfriend and although I can't claim that it is showroom it is in pretty good nick, so I would like to keep it that way.

Car is Silver so if anyone has any good experiences I would be grateful.

Hi ,

For the sake of a tenner , have you swapped the brake light switch ? before paying for diagnostics.

It can often fail and can be the cause of the BAS ESP light illuminating.

Did mine recently and it sorted it.

The main dealer did mention that but would the brake lights still work?

Oh , yes , the brake lights still work fine .

Its the contacts inside that go funny , and the system flags it up as an error with the BAS ESP lights.

90% certain it will fix it , and for the sake of £10 or £12 , its worth doing anyway.

ask them too.they must know that

Did ask the main dealer but it was the parts department and they wobbled when I mentioned the brake lights still worked and said it wasn't that then.

OK, Changed the brake switch to no avail, bit of a pig to get at but a very easy job once you have worked it out, trouble is at no time can you actually see the brake switch so it is all by feel.

Looks like MSL in the week.

Will post up findings as they may be useful to others.
