I have seen many offers for SLK at a very low price, how can Mercedes do this? My wife would like (as they all do) an SLK and the lowest price I have seen is £227 on contract hire and leasing.
Are these prices real?
Thanks Gregg

Yes ... and no.

I've seen quite a few low offers that are headlined and then not actually available when you go and look at the details. Or it's actually a lower spec car (eg. a manual MB - sacrilege!).

Some are transient.

There are also offers at dealers that seem to get hidden away such that you don't find them easily online.

The very best offers I've seen have been fleeting - an expensive (in terms of list price) car available for immediate delivery in a specific colour with specific options. Presumably something where the buyer has cancelled. It's pure luck as to whether this sort of deal pops up at the right time and you spot it and you like it and it's still available to order.

Watch for the shift between the headline monthly and the deposit. You can see that companies offering the leases will often offer what is almost the same underlying deal but on different terms - one will offer a high deposit and low monthly (eg. 9+23) and another will offer a lower deposit and higher monthly (eg. 6+23). Where different companies are offering these variations it's usually a sign that the underlying deal on offer is genuine.

Watch also for admin/documentation fees and also whether VED is included over the whole term when trying to compare prices.

When I was looking for my lease deal, which I did through First Call Leasing, I could have had the SLK for no more than the C220. Apparently a huge factor is the anticipated residual value at the end of the lease, the higher the RV the lower the cost.

As has already been said, they will tend to be lower spec, but having said that, I'm more than happy with the Executive SE spaec. I included Map Pilot, which cost me £5 a month, other extras or up-spec will add more.

Also, as VED is included, and mine is £0 year 1, £30 year 2, that affects the cost also, as of course does length of lease and mileage. The basic deals are 10,000 miles/year.

Don't forget that most won't include insurance or servicing, repairs will be covered by MB warranty.

(And I CHOSE a manual - the last RWD auto I had didn't like the wet or winter.........)

The cars on http://www.lakelandvehiclesolutions.co.uk/ are real. From my experience with them, if they say a car is in stock it means the car is in a Uk dealer waiting for a home.

Don't forget VAT and higher 1st payment on some of the cheaper headline deals.

I managed luckily to get a cracking deal through Select Contracts, just before the very low deals were about to run out! My car, an AMG Sport SLK 250CDI was in stock and the dealer needed it sold before the end of June, hence the very low deal. I caught it with three days to spare!! Very lucky! The deal is £256 a month incl VAT and VED! It's for two years and 10K miles a year. All the contract paperwork and my dealings have been with MB Business Finance, directly. Select were just "introducers" really.

I'm hoping something similar will happen in 2 years time!

SO yes, some of the low deals are genuine, it just depends on timing as far as I can tell.

Just after I picked up my car I noticed a deal on a much higher spec'ed one in a stated colour for immediate delivery at just a few £ more - it was up for less than 24 hours.

Thing is how many people are ready just to jump on such a major purchase within that sort of time window? Definitely a case of right place right time. Problem is that once you're on a time specified lease/hire then your options to hang on and snipe a special deal possibly become quite limited at the end unless you can afford to overlap before it ends or hang on without a direct replacement car after it ends.

Agreed. I'd already sold my CLS and was down to driving my Toyota around, just waiting to pounce on a great deal! I guess not everyone would want or be able to do that! :D
