2005 C220 CDI Avantgarde SE
Hi all, I'm new to this forum but would be interested in getting some views from those who already own MBs.

I am changing my company car shortly, and am planning on getting a new C220 CDI, Classic SE. I wanted to get leather seats, but these aren't avaialble as an option on the Classic.

It therefore seems that I have three choices -

1. Specify the 'Leather twin' seats as an optional extra (additional cost £320)

2. Change from a Classic SE to an Avantgarde SE, which has half fabric/half leather seats as standard (additional cost £500)

3. Change from a Classic SE to an Avantgarde SE, and then also add full leather seats as an optional extra (additional cost £1750).

Obviously the Leather Twin option looks good, but I would value anyone's opinion as to whether this a good bet or not. What is the quality like ? Is it significantly different from the full leather seats ?

I wwant to keep the cost down, but at the same time I don't want to go a for a low cost, but also low quality option.

Any views would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Geoff

Leather twin is perfect. Looks like leather and is harder wearing.

I doubt any layman could tell the diference ....

Yes its great. As Fuzzer says it is very hard wearing. I've had it for about a year and it still looks brand new, like the day I bought it.

Full leather, I think, is way too pricy

Thanks guys.

The brochure is not particularly helpful, so I'm planning on going to the dealers for a proper look, but it's also good to get a view from those who have personal experience.

Just jump into a German MB taxi and you will have a close encounter with it!

Yes, very hard wearing, looks like leather but does not smell like it and can tend make passengers feel a bit sticky. Maybe passenger cars get a ventilated version with lots of tiny holes in like the real leather, but the Taxi seats are industrial and very solid.

Just think of a more modern version "contact grill if left in sun" vinyl seats found in older cars. I can recall it now:

Self: "Dad! The seats are burning my legs!"

Father: "Shut up and sit on that towel."

Leather Twin in the newer cars is a mix between real leather and leather reproduction.

On the front seats , the middle part is leather and the outer cushon is leather reproduction. The entire back seat is leather reproduction.

Both the leather parts and the leather twin are ventalated, but just like leather , you still get a bit sticky in the hot weather....

This sounds like interior talk to me, moving the thread...

I'll go along with what has been said - leather twin is a bargain - or is it that full leather is a rip off

Nobody (except you lot) knows that mine itsn't full leather.

Change the doorcards and the dealers won't know either :)
