Didn't the dealership explain that on today's Beemers, you buy the basic car and then pay a yearly subscription to upgrade features (such as adding an engine.......)?

No, I just bought the basic version. Oddly, it did come with free batteries

But the BMW's I bought prior to the sparky one looked like this:

and in 2021 as a replacement for 'Vera' the Defender:



So, I think I've bought more BMW's in the last decade than Mercedes but Mercedes were the winners (by far) in the previous decade.
