LED Bulbs

I don't know if they are suitable but why not PM KillerHertz who I believe stocks and sells error free led bulbs. He has an advert somewhere in the classifieds.

Hi Tanuie
The simple answer is you can't tell.
I put some error free led bulbs in my CLK. Worked great for a while and looked good.
After a few months you could see a colour difference in the lights and the bulb failure started to come on - so back to incandescent.

I have done the same to my front sidelights - no problem at all, also some in my front foglights, modified to run as DRLs - again, no problems (but I have defeated the bulb failure circuit on them).

Many of the cheap LED's dont last long and cause errors, I have killerhertz ones now and they are more expensive initially but cheaper in the long term because they last because they are top quality

I tried some expensive( not from Killerhertz) LED, supposed to be error free. Just flashed on off. I got my money back.

Hi Ted, After what you guys have said, I will put the normal bulbs back in.
Terry.

I'm after some LED bulbs, seems a many aren't fans on here - had some on my previous car and they have never caused a problem, would be great if someone could recommend a tested product :)

Just as others said - the LEDs I bought from KillerHERTZ lasted four years, and were still perfectly fine when I sold my old car.

The cheap stuff from eBay / AliExpress works for a couple of months, if that.

Not available from KillerHERTZ anymore, the search continues.

Which bulbs you after?

I'd like some other LED number plate lights for mine, I had a pair but broke one of them. However, they were TOO bright... They literally lit up the whole back end of my tailgate. If you look at face lifted MB's, Range Rovers and BMW's now with the LED number plate lights they are bright but the path of light is more focused vertically downwards, that's the look I'm after

Tempted to spend £50 odd on the ones at CKS performance as maybe the more expensive the better? Not too sure...

Both side lights & number plate, think the side lights are 501, can't recall the fitment of the number plate. I had some on my previous car, lasted the whole 5 years of ownership without a problem, but they didn't require resisters to trick the blown bulb message. I understand what you're saying, but couldn't say the same about my previous lights, they were bright, but not too bright for me not to like them. I have come across two examples on the bay, one of which is just bulbs, the other is the whole lens replacement at £20, might be something that you could try for the better angle. My number plate bulb lenses are all yellow and faded by the looks of things, so I wouldn't think that even a strong bulb would be too bright...

Although, I would definitely not pay £50 for a set of number plate or side lights, check auto bulbs direct, they must offer warranty on their products

This also leads me to the question of what is used on the new bmw's & Mercedes, maybe we could simply retrofit the number plate lighting units or even better just use the same bulbs

The bright ones were from auto bulbs direct I'm afraid, they've since discontinued those ones

Yeah my sidelights are 501 wedge ones too, I bought white ones but they are bright blue which is annoying

Hi Tanuie. I would not go for led bulbs when talking about number plates lights. My car is fitted with these(link below). Result is just amazing, plus after 6 months of usage, theres no change in color or any other issues. :)

I've been watching a similar set, how do they go into the current fixture? Looks like there are no screw holes, I'm pretty sure that my lenses are held by screws.

How do you fit those, does the old unit just pull out or are you required to go through the boot lining?
