Hi all,

My left rear cambert arm is bent & it needs a new one, Merc have quoted me 718 pounds to repair it.

I'm good friends with a mechanic who can get me the part for 15 pounds & fit it for me, what I want to know is: Will this effect my merc history in anyway or damage the car if I ever come to sell it?

I vaguely remember merc saying i'd lose my warranty if I ever got it repaired or serviced outside of merc but it runs out in another month anyway so I'm not really that bothered.

Thanks

Sounds like the cheap part might not be real French Camembert, don't accept an inferior Brie it will be a poor substitute.

Is it just me? Asking if it okay to do a fiddle to save yourself money even if it costs someone else? What happened to honesty and integrity? I just bet you would quick to complain if it is done to you and yet it is okay to do it to someone else. :wallbash:

Thanks for the replies, the part is a genuine Mercedes part from another merc, I've done my checks and it fits my model. I'll let you all know how I get on!

Also Giantvanman, I have roughly 3 weeks left on my warranty so I very much doubt I'll be using it thus causing no harm. If you read my post again, I was asking if it would effect my MERC SERVICE HISTORY OR DAMAGE MY CAR IF I CAME TO SELL IT hence why I've posted here in the first place checking it won't effect anything as if it did I'd just get it done by Merc. Not in anyway was I trying to scam Merc out of my warranty. But then again, I suppose its okay for them to charge a 500% mark up on parts.

If you (or your mechanic) fits a second-hand genuine MB part ...... How would anyone else ever know ?

,,,,,,,,,,, Unless you tell them.

I took it to the Merc garage originally to find out what the issue was. Would they mark this sort of stuff down on the cars record & check it the next time I take it in for service?

Hi Haux.
I did ask myself the same question when I posted.
If they didn't actually do any work and invoice you for it - Then it shouldn't be on the service record .
I could be wrong there.

Thanks John,

Job done today all fixed! Compared the parts, pretty much exact replicas- just a little cleaner!

Took us just under 2 hours to do & all fitted easily! All for 16 quid, taking it for a wheel alignment in the morning.
