Completely agree....you cant get too precious about them....after all they are cars and built to be used. I'm still finding Xmas tree needles in my car even now!! If they get the odd ping and scratch so be it, it shows its had a life and you can always get it fixed if it bothers you!!!.....not using your car for its intended purpose to keep the miles down a reduce incidental damage is, in my view, not unlike dating a super model and not shagging her to keep her tight for the next guy!!!

To me it very much depends on whether you plan to keep something for a long period of time, possibly forever or whether you know you'll move it on in a few years and general wear and tear won't make much difference to you.

2nd car is always a good alternative.

Where we are it is a struggle with parking so we always end up with one. We try to tick all boxes (space, practicality, kids... and the fun factor of course :)).

That's one opinion, but then you have those of us who are leasing or using PCP, in which case the car isn't yours to mess up like that in the first place. There's 'wear and tear', then there's good old fashioned abuse - not something I would contemplate personally, I just see me as looking after the car for the bank and I know for a fact that if I scuff paintwork, ding wheels, damage the interior - i'll end up paying for it at the end of the agreement anyway, so why expose yourself to that?
 
Very true....I was not thinking of PCP drivers....Ive never owned cars new enough for that!!. But even they allow for fair wear and tear and some (like VW dealers) have a little measuring gauge to define if that little car park ping is under the "pass" size....if not you get charged!

The handover process for my last Audi A6 Avant was very very stringent. But I only had to cough for excess mileage charges, even though the car had interior damage to the tailgate and a tear in the roof lining, both from me being careless loading stuff. I managed to keep the pickup driver distracted talking about his other job - No.1 Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonator in the UK (yes, seriously).

Guy on the left (obviously) - obviously the demand for gigs impersonating the big 'A' have dried up and he's fallen on hard times, now that he works for BCA :D
