I have a motoring question for once :p

My W202 has a personal plate on it; and I would like to keep this plate even though the car is going to charity.

I was thinking of driving down on my current plates, then once the car goes to charity register it as permanently exported here and transfer the plates to my new car...

That said, I don't want to drive through Morocco with my current numberplate (long story), nor do I have the new car yet.

So I'm told I can put the plates on retention for £100ish. Alternatively, I have a second car I could put the plates on, which would be an option... but I can't find costs associated with this. (google just brings up spam... hundreds of companies selling plates, no real information though!)

Any ideas/advice?

The links below have the information you need. It's £80 to transfer to another vehicle, £105 to retain it (which comprises the £80 transfer fee plus a £25 retention fee, so there's nothing more to pay if you put it on a car within a year. Beyond that, you need to renew the retention certificate at £25 per year, or else you lose the number.)

Retaining:

Retention it is!

(if I read that right, to use a temporary vehicle it would be £160)

Now I need to get all the paperwork in line... I wonder where I put my MOT certificate.....

In my experience it's always more efficient to put the plate on retention. Somehow it just seems to be cheaper and a lot less hassle.
