I might have mentioned this on here before but one of my neighbours has a Triumph bike just a few years old 'retro' look . He rides around with black and silver pressed steel numberplate on it . The numbers and letters identify it as a pretty new bike.

He just doesnt give a $hit . He likes the way it looks on his 'retro' styled bike . :dk:

The exit from the EU required 3 stickers. 2 to go over the EUstars/GB and an oval white UK sign on the boot. Cost peanuts from Ebay.

You can just put 'UK' + union flag stickers on the plates - you don't then need an oval sign on the boot.

Has he been stopped by the police?

I thought this was just silver-on-black pressed plates. I’ve had a pressed alloy yellow reflective plate on my JZR (1998 reg) for years, it’s even curved to fit round the bodywork. Passed many MoTs.

He takes his bike(s) into his house through the front door and they live in his dining room area.
Not Married, Divorced, or a very understanding Wife? 🙂

So according to the latest regulations the front my front plate is not legal and the rear one is :dk: It's a funny old world!....

For your reference both have legal fonts, legally spaced and the makers name and postcode displayed.

Understanding wife , he also owns a classic 'tuned' Lambretta , which also live in the dining room . Both bikes are used as 'decoration' when not being ridden.

I would suggest that the rear plate is not legal due to it's shape. Buy there is no attempt to 'hide' the digits from ANPR , so who cares ? Certainly not me and probably no copper or MOT tester would really bother much.

Without googling it and from faded memory the size and shape of the plate is dictated by the type of car. Only certain cars can have a square rear plate , including minicabs so the council licence can be affixed next to it , It can be a shorter rectangle if it has 5 ? or less digits ??, Motorcycle can only be square , not rectangular . Basically rectangular or square, nothin else. Happy to be proved wrong.

Unless its a Rover 75 ...then it has to be the size of a barn door !

The last couple of posts bring you back to what I said,if the plate can be read by ANPR then that should be ok

The rear is perfectly legal! There is no max and min size, or indeed shape! Old Jag and Rover plates were legal 'oversized' and shaped to fit the aperture in the boot lid. The only requirement is that there is an min of 11mm of reflective background around all the legally spaced digits. Whilst there are 'normal' sized plates, the law does not state a maximum size!

The front pate is now illegal as it has slightly 3D effect black digits, fully legal when purchased 2019, but now outlawed as the letter of the law says they should be just one shade of black!
