Hi all, can the sensitivity of the above be adjusted by STAR. Reason is, just had windscreen replaced and now lights come on when it is nearly dark (used to come on earlier) and wipers come on too early and cause screeching across dry (Ish) screen. Had windscreen replaced 8 months ago by same company that replaced it this time and then there was no difference to the sensitivity after the repacement.

Sounds like the sensor needs adapting (calibrating) to the new screen.

C180K SE Coupe Rain Sensor

My car 'should' have automatic rain sensor operation but it only works in manual mode. There looks to be two sensors when I look at windscreen from the outside. Anyone have any ideas for checking please?

Describe the two sensors? How many lenses?

When you say "should" what makes you think this?

Oh! Welcome to the forum :D

Can't get to car at the moment to accurately describe the lenses but I recall one is larger than the other, is centrally situated and more white in colour. The other one is to the left (from front) and slightly lower - I think!!!

The C180KSE literature says that it has rain sensors.

Rain sensors were an option on most models. What year is yours?

Early versions had seperate rain and light sensors (with light lenses central and rain sensor to the right, seen from the front and an asymetric box on the inside of the screen) later versions has combined R&L sensors (with two central light lenses and two sets of four rain lenses, one each side, with a central symetrical box inside).

2005.

Where exactly would the asymetrical (or symetrical) be situated relative to the interior lamp and switch cluster?

Thanks for your very rapid feedback - much apreciated.

Retrofit of RainSensor

Any ideas on cost of retrofit ? I need to have my windscreen replaced and I understand that a rain sensor would need to be calibrated to the screen. If that is the case, it would make sense to have the new screen and the retro done at the saem time wouldn't it?

Thanks

A screen meant for the combined light/rain sensor will have a bunch of lens already glued to it (2 for light + 4pr for rain).
The actual parts you need will run some £40 + codong.

Rain Sensor

If I use the screen replacement company that my insurance offers, will they send me the right one or shoudl I tell them I want to send it to a dealer?

If you tell them you want one for a combined RLS they should be able to source a the correct one.
