hi
i gather from other threads that the hissing sound in my w202 is probably due to a loose connection in the lights auto levelling system...especially as the light levelling is also currently not working....question: how do i trace the leak/ loose connection? where do i look for it? thanks

It's almost certainly a vacuum leak as you said.

Check the connections to the rear of the headlamps. This is the most likely place. Will they level at the moment or not?

no they dont level at the moment..what color are the wires im looking for?
cheers

They're not wires but narrow plastic tubes. Blue or purple usually and very hard to spot as its quite tight behind the lamp, well it is on the 203 anyway.

Malcolm, you were the one who helped me in January with this.

The hissing was in the footwell yet the bad connection was behind the headlight.

OK as I re call now they do make a hiss in the cab when you turn the adjuster as the air has to come out, the valves do play up, there was a 107 at a meet where 2 of the valves were not working

thanks all for your advice...tracked the problem to a broken coupling behind the left headlamp...have the new part..is it a case of simply unpluggng the old one and installing the new one? ok to cut off a short bit of the purple line as the old connector is stuck in there or any tricks to remove this bit? thanks again..

I use a warm air gun, but a cup of very hot water will work, if you have some spare then cut the end off, and still warm it up to fit the new one

not as easy as i thought...how do i get access to the back of the headlamp? do i need to remove the headlamp? if so, how???thanks

hissing sound gone, lights adjustable again!

turns out a little t connector in the vacuum system was broken..needed to remove the headlamp to gain access..replacement connector from mb cost under £2...no hissing and the lights are adjustable again...very pleased. thanks for all your advice..

the connectors are fine at the headlamp end..... how and where do I find the source on a C250 diesel?
