I just had mine done yesterday by Braybrooks.

Neil Braybook did an excellent job and was all done and dusted in the space of 2 hours. I had a very enjoyable drive home just talking to and listening to my car all the way home!!

The system works very well, and I would say understands my commands 90-95% of the time. I only called it a "dumb bitch" a couple of times when she refused to understand me.

I am very impressed with it so far, and unlike most females you can just shut her up at the touch of a button!!!

Going from memory there are 6 main sections:

Navigation
Address Book
Phone
Radio
CD Player
CD Changer

Just hit the button and say "Navigation" and it asks you if you would like to spell a town, give it the first 4 or 5 letters and it gives you a list of possible matches, just say the number for the one you want.

Same for the street name, and then you get the option for house number which I have never seen when entering via the keypad!

It asks if you want to start navigation, or you can store the entries and assign a voice tag. All I have to do now is say "Navigate Home" and it takes me home!!

You can also give it commands like "Zoom In" or "Zoom Out" when on the map screen.

It is just so much easier talking to it than typing street names, etc.

With the CD Changer section, you can say "CD 1" and it loads CD 1, say "Track1" and it plays track 1.

With the phone I just say "Call home" and it calls home.

The full list of commands was posted by sombody a while back, you can see it here

I just love gadgets, this has to be the coolest gadget I have bought in a while!

Sounds impressive, what functions can you control with it?
Ages ago I posted all the commands for the 211 Linguatronic. What I am interested in is the cost? I have the hands free telephone option, plus COMAND, but a few years ago I was quoted in excess of £800 and we had to go to Braybrooks in Hertfordshire, plus leave the car with them for a day.

It cost £720 + VAT but I get the VAT back anyway.

It took 2 hours to complete the job, and it was a very neat and tidy job too.

I know it is expensive but it al came about in a strange way. I originally specced up my car WITHOUT Satnav having always been happy with portable units. I then got a car that was to my spec but had Satnav in, I got the Satnav for nothing as I did not want it, so it then made £720 to make it a really good system quite cheap!

Now I have it, I will have it on all future cars too!!

Thanks very much for the prompt reply, it looks like the price has remained pretty static.

I have heard complaints about Linguatronic, but a number of E-class owners have had nothing but praise for this excellent system and now I can add you to that list ;)

Happy motoring,

Regards
John

Sounds great.

One small tip that I always tell customers of mine is never store your home address on your comand as 'Home'. Why? because if you are out somewhere and you have your keys stolen the thief not only has your car, he also has a navigation system which will take him straight to your house with your keys!

If you get your head unit updated it will work even better. There is a voice training button in the SERV area.

Thanks Alfie, and what was the first entry I stored......

Wil be making a change later today!

My 2000 CL500 has the VCS (Linguatronic) module positioned next to the Phone Controller module under the rear seat but no voice control. Anyone have any idea how much to finish the job MB left half done?

It seems to be a common working practice, my car also has the wiring and amplifiers/aerial etc. for TV, just no tuner. Go figure...

You car is not wired for VCS. It would take about 2 hours and cost something like 800 Euro. Assuming you have the correct steering wheel of course.

If it isn't wired for VCS, what is the module doing sat under the rear seat with connectors going into it? You're correct about the steering wheel/controller stalk, that isn't there.

Forums are always are great place to ledt off steam, slag off a certain dealership, purchase, repair etc. Occassionally we are treated to someone that actually dares to volunteer good information.

When Clarkson demonstrated his own Linguatronic system on the SL, he simply stated, CD1 Track 5 (or 4 :D) and hey presto. No fuss, no shouting, just instant music.

I have always raved about the noise of the modern 55AMG, so without further ado, I give to you: 2:53 sec
