Linguatronic Retrofit

If I spent 700 pounds on having VCS installed on my S, I would forever be feeling annoyed at myself for having spent on something that doesn't put a smile on my face. And to me that would be wasteful.

plus mrs. shr wont let me get it!!!

I wish we could.:o :)

John

We will be fitting linguatronic to my A class next week. We plan to offer it on other cars soon;)

You will have to move to the English Riviera, as it is definitely something I want.

Just reading another thread I can think of a good use for lingautronic, it stops the lettering wearing off the knobs and buttons. :):):):):):):)

Sounds great.

One small tip that I always tell customers of mine is never store your home address on your comand as 'Home'. Why? because if you are out somewhere and you have your keys stolen the thief not only has your car, he also has a navigation system which will take him straight to your house with your keys!

Thats a good idea in the UK, unfortunately the yanks require your registration and insurance documents (original or copy) to be kept in the car and so a thief only needs to look at those to find your address  .

Hmmm nice try. I presented that idea to mrs. shr.
Still no go.
"Now you're just being rediculous!!!" were her words.

Was worth a try though. :)

i got stalk s/w on my 220 1999 but linguatronic do notwork can i do upgrade

I've looked at your car details and it appears you don't have Linguatronic. (Nice spec car though)
The stalk you are referring to is for cruise control/variable speed limiter.
Works as follows:

Cruise ctrl. (CC)
  • Move lever either up or down to set CC to current vehicle speed (25mph and above). The speedo lights and dash display will tell you what the speed is set to.
  • Pull lever towards you to resume speed.
  • Push lever away to cancel CC.

Variable speed limiter (orange light on in switch)
  • Move lever up/down to increase/decrease speed in 5mph intervals. (Once set, pull lever towards you to give 1mph increments) Again, the speedo and dash display will tell you what you're set at.
  • Push lever away to cancel set speed (or engage kickdown)

One of the 'cheap' options I was looking for when I bought my new S was linguatronic. Intergrated with the hard drive navigation it works really well and adds so much to restful quality of the car not having to search for switchs when you can do most things from the voice command.
Most of my most used phone numbers are on there and simply being able to say 'Call Tom' or whoever is much easier than scrolling through the phone book.:D
Used to buy upgrade DVD's for navigation upgrades, anyone any idea how you get the latest upgrades for the hard drive? Mine still gets confused at the A1/M62 junction which has been there a little while now!

Linguatronic on the newer cars is definitely a nice touch and certainly worth having. My S is seven years old now and this (i believe) is when Linguatronic was in it's early stages so limited in functionality.

Voice controlled navigation entry would be most useful to me. Telephone use is only occassional and so use of steering wheel is sufficient.

(Think I'm still trying to convice myself I don't want Linguatronic)

Can you post a picture?

Here is what it will look like - pic from my car - if you do have linguatronic installed on a W220:

On the 1999 model I believe that the microphone switch is on the airbag, otherwise a new airbag is required.

You mean that the switch is on the MF steering wheel, right? (lower left button).
No need to change the airbag is there?

If the microphone icon is on the MF airbag then only the hardware / wiring is missing.

I have been told that if the icon is not there (i.e. menu down button instead) when you add the rest of the hardware, you can reconfigure that menu down button (via Star) as the microphone button.

Does that sound right?
