I need to set up a quick and dirty SSH/SFTP server... my first thought was to run it in a virtual machine on an existing server, but as I have an old Mac Pro G5 lying about I think I'll try to use that...

Problem is, I cannot find a linux distro that will support it... any ideas?

Word is that Debian supports just about any architecture. Try this link and let us know how you got on with it. :)

Hi

I think yellow dog was one of the older distros for mac but I believe ubuntu do one too now, good if you're not too familiar with linux. Always been a slackware man myself but only intel and arm for that distro I think.

Thanks. Ended up shoving it on a vm as I was in a rush... needed an sftp server set up for today's work!

May still play with it tonight/this weekend and see if I can put those old G5's to some use...

M.

Yellow Dog linux is very good for Power* architecture machines, and the G5s are still a supported platform. It's based on CentOS sources.
