Lock Down Detailing - Anyone? :)

I've decided as I'm coming to the end a lot of my cleaning/detailing stuff, I've decided to stick to Autoglym stuff from now, on, I've used a lot of there stuff,
Rapid Detailer, Instant Tyre Dressing, Car Shampoo, Fast Glass, Super Resin etc etc, and found them all, very good, never used there HD wax though, and it's readily available from Halfords and more often than not is on offer. I've tried lots of other stuff, recommended by others and read about, to me anyway they are all about the same, some are downright crap, the choice is mind blowing, so for me anyway, Autoglym now on. :)

I did a full detox on mine the other day i will start a lockdown thread this evening. A quick shot of mine before she went on lockdown.

Well i finally managed to put some time aside for the car Saturday and given that it has only been getting a series of quick cleans i.e. Snow foam, two buckets wash, and AF polar seal it was time to do a little more. As always i didn't take as many pics as i'd have liked to but enough to give you the idea and see the results.

With the car:

BH snow foam x2
Two bucket wash x 2 maybe 3
Autoglym shampoo solution for pressure washer
BH fall out remover
Clay mit
Meg's mirror bright
Black hole glaze
Fusso Coat

Oh and finished the wheels off with some Meg's tyre gel and quick detailer.

I was a bit confused when it came to the Meg's Mirror bright polish paste wax as i was planning to put the glaze on before but then looking in the tin of M/Bright it's seemed more polish than wax (abrasive) so i opted to apply the glaze after as i think M/bright would have just taken it off. Then i finished with a thin coat of Fusso Coat which made it shine like a colgate smile.

I've been giving our cars a wash every weekend rotating out.

Its the turn of the C63 this week!

About three weeks ago I cleaned & dried mine, tried (unsuccessfully) to use a clay mitt, DA polished it then waxed it. All Autoglym except the mitt - and I'll go back to a bar next time.

It immediately got covered in dust and got progressively worse and so I snapped at the weekend. Another wash & dry followed this time by gloss sealant. Also, this time I had a new microfibre wheel brush which meant for the first time in 2 years my rims are clean all the way through to the far side.

Neither job was done to perfection but as it's a dark colour it always looks good in the right light.

Nice motor, what was the problem with the clay mitt? I've always found them great to use.

Thanks. It still scrubs up well.

The mitt I tried was like an XXL oven glove. It would stick to the paint and judder around and my hand would just slide around hoplessly inside it. It was very different from a clay bar which I just find very easy to use - bar just glides over the paint.

Although having said that I've only ever used AG Super Detailing Spray with the bars. This time I couldn't get any so tried Dodo Juice. Maybe that's also a reason?

Dunno. Gave up :-(

Hey Chris... looks like a good job buddy, although you may find the fussocoat wont last that long when applied over a glaze, as it needs to bond directly to paint for longevity.... so when you see it start to tail off, give the car a wipe down with some Panel prep before adding another coat.

Hey buddy, Clay mitts are ok for fine stuff and rinse out well, but for a real deep decon, its best to go over with a clay bar… Bilt Hamber is about the best and only requires water as a lube.

Thanks. Do you use soft, medium or hard bars?

Looking at their site my car would probably benefit from either a soft or a medium. There's not a whole heap of contamination.

My wife's car had a bit more so maybe a medium would be better.

At the moment I can only see soft on Amazon.

Does it matter that much?

regular is the hard clay for really bad contamination, medium and soft are the ones I prefer,,, it helps if you pre soak them in hot water to soften them up before using them on the panels

Yeah maybe I was too light on the lube - it was juddering away over the surface.

I was going to do a longer write up with more detail which may have helped you.

With the clay mit i lube with the pressure washer and also have a bucket of soapy water to give it a little dip in, more to make me feel better i think.

When i say lube with the pressure washer i mean take advantage of the detergent feature. I mix a shampoo solution that with the karcher i plug the bottle on or the Vax pressure washer has a great little hose that hangs out in to a 5ltr jerry can.

Simply keep spraying the car with the solution, use the clay mit with almost no pressure, rinse the panel off, dip and so on. I find i can clay mit the car quite quickly this way.

If your pressure washer doesn't have a detergent feature then you could use the snow foam attached or any old well cleaned spray bottle like a flash bottle mixed with some nice cheap halfords shampoo, which i find is actually quite good stuff.

Thanks Lee, as above i was going to go into more depth but i have done in the past and i tend to feel like i'm repeating myself lol.

Thanks for the tip on the fusso coat also i had some i wanted to use up what i had so i could find an excuse to order some new wax without the missus raised eyebrow when she see me mooching detailing sites.

I very rarely use the PB black hole glaze, only when i have done a complete cleanse do i really break it out and it had been so long since i waxed i wanted to strip in back.

I have got into the habit after a good clean of applying a second coat of wax two weeks after the first but have been so busy lately both at home and work i have been naughtily/lazily using Polar seal or meg's ultimate detailer to top up although are good for a couple of weeks they don't give the warm and fuzzy feeling a decent wax does.

I'm really just smoothing over the cracks at the moment till i can get a few days together to do a full mop and detail but with covid-19 knocking about it may get put of till next year.

No worries buddy... I know what you mean about wax... but sadly they don't last long and seem to attract dust like nothing else Fusso is quite bad for that… what waxes are you looking at after you do a full Paint correction?

My car had a service and repairs completed so i collected the car from Mercedes today.

They actually listened to my request and did not wash the car.

Soon as the sun had left my driveway i gave the outside a quick wash just to get some cob webs off.

Gave the interior a full clean with some anti-bac to ensure no lurgees!
