Hi
I guess this been asked quite a few times before but I'm looking to change my 59plate e250 cdi coupe to a 10plate 350 cdi coupe.
But I'm just a bit worried that the MPG will only be a big difference from my 250, currently getting average 42 ish around town but I've read of some stories that it could be low as 29mpg anybody has some actual readings on a10 plate pls.
I don't drive like a vicar but on the other hand not like a lunatic either.
Have been looking at a 256 bhp 350 is there much difference between the 231 & 265bhp ?

It depends on your driving. Around town and worried about MPG then the 350cdi isn't the car for you. Mine cruises up and down the motorways mostly and gets good MPG for what it is. 42-45mpg on longer drives, but near 30mpg around town. Around town I use our other car.

The 265bhp engine is 2-3mpg better than the 231bhp in my experience.

Thanks for this the motorway miles are about 80% for me so those figures seam not bad, as mine is a 5 speed it seams to rev then change but I guess the 350 is a lot smother so this is another plus point for me.
Regarding the to the bhp the figures in the MB website they state an extra 10 plus to the gallon I guess as you said its how you drive the car and where you are driving.
Thanks for your input

As you've said you've considered a 265, I checked the OBC on my 350 coupé after a 700 mile dual carriageway and autoroutes drive through France recently, speeds varying between 110 km/hr - 125 Km/hr, depending on limit, and it showed 51 mpg.

I checked again on return (return journey included some slower roads over a couple of days) and figure over 1750 miles was closer to 54 mpg IIRC.

I'm sure I could get it a lot lower if I wanted, and I don't use it around town. Having said that, I don't nomally check the consumption and I presume a 4-cylinder would be better. But then who buys a 3 litre or bigger engine for economy?

No idea what an earlier 231bhp would be, but based on the changes made to the engine, I would guess at a few mpg worse. And I presume a saloon might be a little worse than a coupé.

It does seem to use about 1/3rd of the fuel of my old V8 petrol MBs though, and that is noticeable :)

Like all diesels it depends on how and where you drive. Mine is a 61plate estate and I get 25-30 if I use the performance. The worst I've had is 22. On a run ie steady on the motorway then it goes right up and I get 46-47. This is where they come into their own. Compare it to my old where I got 15 and 22 you can see it's the long runs where you get the real difference.

Thanks for the info looks like I will take the plunge and get a 350, but if I get a 231 or 265 money depends.
As you said you don't buy a bigger engine for economy but it's nice to know others fact and figures as the manufactures do inflate their figures .

Expect between 27-38 with an average of 32mpg and you won't be disappointed.

When I was doing 30,000 miles a year I worked out that the E350cdi would save me around £30 a week over an E500 V8.

Those that buy a diesel and do 12k miles a year I simply don't get.

torque from a 350 is awesome, and you can't buy a 500 for a while now.

Diesel owners, all torque. ;)

No, you can't buy a petrol because of the unjust fears in the UK over petrol.

Very good friend at Audi said they are starting to see residuals on petrols actually doing better than diesels on some models now, first time in years, so maybe people are really thinking things through a bit more.

I wanted a 500 to replace my old 430. The dealer talked me into the diesel. It's very nice, but I'd switch back to a 500 tomorrow if they were available. And my next car just might be an A6.

I had a 3.2fsi A6 Quattro Avant before my E350cdi, and there is something so nice about a petrol that no matter how good the diesels are they simply can't match.

Thats the average i was happy to get when i bought my e350cdi new in january but it's averaged 38mpg[brim to brim calculated],if you do a lot of short/city/stop start journeys be aware of dpf issues, that aside, they're great cars.

Loved my v8 cls500 and although i only do 8,500 miles a year i worked out over the 10 years i intend to keep my e350cdi the difference in running costs between it and the 500 is just over 13 grand-that's a nice chunk towards my next car;)

About 15k maybe 10 on motorway so I guess it would make sense to go for the 350

Based on the above i'd say go for it,good luck.

I've only had my 2010 E350 coupe for just over a month so I'm still playing but I'm loving the v6 diesel.
I'm getting around 40mpg but expect it to go up when I calm down a bit

Andy

Something to bare in mind, the 265 version gets around 3mpg more than the 231 version and then the 7g tronic plus seems to get another 3-4mpg more again.

another vote for the 265hp 350 V6 - 7G+ combo
