Could I live with this and transport SWMBO and the kids?? - we do have weekends away to london, oxford, edinburgh etc a couple of times a year

Seems cheap .....

How old are your kids ? i was under the impression that the back seats were an afterthought almost, and the kids would have to be very small indeed ....

Stats is the SL expert , why not drop him a PM ...

Good luck ..

Sean, if you are in any way "big" ie. tall there will be nowhere for them to put their feet as the front seats basically touch the base of the rears (unless they adopt the lotus position)!

I'm 6' 1" and can drive my R129 with our kids (4 and 6) in the back. I do have to move the driver's seat further forward than I'd like, but it's not insurmountable (and there are 3 memories on the seats, so putting the seat back to the normal position is one button press - I have the 'kids' setting stored too). There's no problem on the passenger side as there's a huge amount of leg room in the front so the seat can be moved well forward. I've had my mum in the back on that side, with my dad in the front.

But ... the main issue is now that the rear child seats aren't certified to the right specification for the new laws. They are specifically designed to be child seats, so IMO adding a booster cushion (which would be legally the thing to do) would actually make matters worse. However, they only have lap belts, so I don't see how you can use booster cushions anyway.

For occasional use this isn't a big deal IMO (M-B designed these seats for carrying kids just as they are), but I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis as you could possibly get a fixed penalty from a keen cop.

Personally I'd give it a wide berth.

The rear seats are virtually useless for adults - you can cram 4 in for very short journeys but it's not pleasant.

Even as a child I don't think I'd want to spend more than a few hours in the back.

You're probably right, but in the summer with the hood down the kids love being in the back of mine.

I used to go to air shows in the back of my grandfather's Jag XK150S drophead, which was just as cramped. Top down the draft was so bad on the motorway that I used to wear goggles!

Wide rather than tall;) but I do have my seat a good way back[like driving in a deck chair:D :D :D ]

Ok thanks - it looks like a lot of car for the money being asked. Have to wait until the kids have flown the coop - only another 10-15 years then:mad:

I see that they offer "NO WARRANTIES" dispite being a car trader. Isn't there some kind of law against this? :)

here we go "There is no service history from these miles but we know the mileage to be correct and the car has been serviced but no receipts kept. We will service the car before it is sold.".....

stay away!

After 5 owners and nearly 100k miles it's probably not as good as it looks in the pics. I'd have thought a 300 would be getting a bit tired - this is a 2 tonne car (near enough). Mentions paintwork being done (accident?), and mention of rust is a bit worrying as this isn't normally a problem with R129s. Also the comment about the gearbox. It has no service history for the last 8 years (despite saying "Full serice history"), that combined with the bling wheels and rear spoiler would ring alarm bells for me I'm afraid.

YES there is!
I thought there might be! ;)

A friend of mine recently went to check out a car on the forecourt of a small trader and when he asked the salesman if there was any warranty he said that they currently had none to offer but were hoping to have some in place soon! Erm, hello? :)

Yep, all looks straight and above-board then! :D

No service history for the past 8 years AND he also lost every MOT certificate for the same period

Like I said - give it a wide berth. The M103 engine is gutless in this car as well - something like 185bhp giving a 10s 0-60. The 300-24 is the only 300 worth getting IMO and realistically I'd have an SL320 minimum from 1994 onwards.

The early cars do suffer a bit from rust on the front arches - and also stonechip rust at the front behind the grille.
