Happy New Year folks.
I did get a very nice reply from MB, who thanked me for the letter, and included a very smart MB pen. In essence, they agreed to re-look at their interpretation of the rules, which may, or may not, result in a change in policy. However, they did warn that even if they did make a change of policy, it would take a very long time before any change would be implemented in the cars themselves. I guess it may help with future models.
They explained further, that the advice from the Technical Department, that it could not be done, was correct.
I have tried to live with that answer, and have become better at flicking through the display screens to check the OAT, but it is one of those things that is becoming more and more irritating.
If the advice from the Tech Dept is correct, then how is it that my last car, also a W211, had the OAT on the status line????? Perhaps it's a miracle!!! But it seems to me their advice must be wrong. Surely it is just a software setting. I feel another letter coming on, asking them to explain this little dichotomy, but as a fall back, I am off to Germany at Easter, so may take the opportunity to see if a local german dealer can do anything for me. If all of that fails, perhaps I will have to engage the guy that Richard mentioned, who does it for a quick ton!
