I was just thinking, what the cheapest car I'd buy would be if I were to win the lottery.

Considering that the car has to been in good to mint condition to sit beside all the other exotics that you'll buy for your stable, what is the cheapest car you'd hunt for when the 'big win' hit your account?

My thoughts were:

Sierra Cosworth - but that would still cost around £8-10k

Jag XJS - Ditto

Land Rover SIII SWB - but they still look the same today so I'd end up buying on brand new for £25k plus

Porsche 928, Rover P5 coupe, TR6, Audi S8, all still too expensive.

So the best I could think of was a....

Golf GTI MkII 16v 3dr in Oak Green :bannana: can't cost more than £3k for a good one.

I was after one of those just recently, a good one went for just £1000 near me, but it was right on top of xmas and I had no spare cash :(
Anyway, considering I've never won a tenner I don't think I'd be able to afford much! BUT if I were, I would buy all my old cars back and have a museum! :D Cheapest car is current one, just £200.

Mk 1 Golf Gti 1.8
Golf Clipper Cabrio
Mk 2 CRX VTEC

probably buy an old mini and make an exact replica of my 1st car (a mini) with the same mods for old times sake!! i believe the real car is parked in that car park in the sky now :(

-A 1980 Nissan Datsun Sunny Estate in Copper.

Our families 1st car back in the 80's.

No doubt the crumple zones were on par with a Crisp bag, but so many memories :bannana: Such as the rivetted plate over the rust hole in the drivers door which held the mirror in place - looked like the side of a battleship.

At school I had the p!ss ripped out of me due to all the rust holes, it looked like someone had gone down the car with an Uzi :D

I think its Lhasa green which was 'the' colour to have at the time apparently.

I'd buy a fully loaded A160 CDI for the daughter. That would be the cheapest car I'd buy.

I wouldn't buy a cheap car........simple as

But, if i just wanted a bit of what reminds me of my late teens/early twenties, i would get an original Series 1 RS Turbo Escort - you know - available in only white. Had one of these when i was 20....exactly 20 years ago....scary thought.

However, apparently, Princess Di had a special 1 off in Black!!

A fine choice. I reckon it might be a contender for me too.

Chevette HSR would be too expensive I think.

You need a normal run around for some use - so a reasonable age/spec VW Golf or Passat or similar is going to cost ~£7K, so if I were suddenly to gain those extra digits to my estate, I reckon I'd not purchase a car for much less, but may well then drive it into the ground.

I can't imagine anything I'd want to buy because I could costing less, more the other direction. I suppose I could get a C230K or an old E30 BMW for memories, but I doubt I would.

hmm i dont think i would want anything cheap, i would buy more pre 1990 mercs... if i do ever win the lottery, i WILL buy a mint gullwing.

I wouldn't buy anything stupid-expensive even if I won the big one, I'd join a club like P1 or something to get my supercar kicks. I'd hope to be spending too much time spending my vast sums of cash all over the world to own anything too exotic at home.

I would, however, definitely seek out shabby examples of the things I lusted after in my yoof - Opel Monza GSE, Porsche 928 S4, Merc 560SEC, Citroen SM (just realised I must have had a big coupe fixation going on or something...).

Thinking about it these probably wouldn't be all that cheap now but I think they qualify for the original question.
