Hi,
When my car de-accelarates to about 5-20 miles per hour I can hear a deep noise coming from under the car. (Like an aircraft)
The car moves with no problems and on accelation there is no problem.
Is it a differential problem?

Pls help

Is it an Exhaust sound of a split exhaust pipe??

Does it sound when stationary and engine is revved up??

Definatly not the exhaust. More of a deep grinding noise.
No noise when stationary.
thanks

Yeh sounds like either gearbox or diff, id put my money on the diff... When was the diff oil checked??

Hey peeps, newbie here :)

Amo, one quick check you can do.. As the car rolls to a stop knock it into neutral, if the noise continues, it's either the input bearing to the diff that has gone or the propshaft centre bearing - if the noise stops when rolling in neutral, it is probably coming from the gearbox.

It may also be worth check-tightening the propshaft to diff input coupling bolts as a friend of mine had one come loose on his 190E Cossie, which made a grinding noise for a bit as the loose bolt hit the surounding structure, until it inevitabely broke, making a bit of a mess.

Hope that helps,
ross

Ok thanks I'l try that, I'd be amazed if it was the g/box as MB replaced it at 82k and the car has only done 106k.
The Diff has a oil leak, but my mechanic said it was small and there was still oil in there.
