Got a flyer from MB yesterday - "7 reasons to service your 3 year + car at MB"

It suggests that dealers now sell MB recommended tyres at the same price as discount places and also sell "economy" tyres.

The flyer was from the MB dealership that includes Blackburn etc. At some stage I'll get a quote and publish - would be interesting for others to do the same?

(Just tried Westwoods - she can't tell me from the model number what tyres are needed!! )

They are not a tyre shop and do not rely on tyre sales to make money, but they do buy a lot of tyres so can pass on some good discounts.

I asked for a quote to have some tyres fitted and it came to £120. I already had the tyres, that was just labour, valves, weights and disposal! ;)

My dealer was keen to supply me 2 rear tyres. I knew they needed replacement and had aready got pricng for Michelin Primacy HP of typically £110 or so, but had found both Costco and a local(ish) specialist were £99.

I was pretty pleased when the dealer quoted £190 - until it became clear that was *each*!! His 'best possible' price was £167.

I think dealers have their own suppliers for tyres - not a DCUK thing like parts.

My dealer sources tyres from the same place that I bought my last two sets from, and couldn't get anywhere near the price even with my favourable discounts.

Ironic as a Vauxhall dealer I used to use was happy to charge at cost for tyres, and then pay for a fitting, valves and balance which was no more expensive than anywhere else. An excellent service IMHO. PS I know they were at cost because I'd already phoned the same distributor for a price before I knew the Vauxhall dealer used them. I let Vauxhall do it as I wasn't being ripped off and it meant I could coincide it with a service.

That'll be the day!

Lower cost of tyres from MB? To quote John Wayne in "The Searchers" possibly one of the best westerns ever made.
THAT'LL BE THE DAY.

It is worth noting that there are at several types of Michelin (Pilot) Primacy tyres (91-97, W/Y etc. load/speed ratings). The price differences I found can be up to £20 per tyre for 205/55 16's

I was recently sent a book of discount vouchers from my dealer, including money off tyres (10%, IIRC).

With my 285 35 18 the difference in price at the discount stores is nearly £50 for the different ratings

I pay locally £12.50 per wheel for tyre change, balance and fitting, with all of the care in the world taken not to mark the rims

I just got 2 rears 205/55/16s Goodyears fitted by this company who come and do it on your driveway. Nationwide. Their van is kitted out immaculately, brand new wheel balancing machine, guy was real proffessional, delicate and precise. Not like these young boys, with no skills or care in the world, that the big companies are using.

Even used a torque wrench when refitting the wheels. Their prices were also cheaper, than any of the big known companies, with a very impressive selection on their web site. Click the brand, size and time you want them fitted also.

After using them, I will never visit the high street for tyres again. Here's their website. Check the selection. http://www.etyres.co.uk/

etyres seem to be 20 - 30% dearer than mytyres.co.uk.

Like everything else, a lot depends on the individual doing the job. I've heard they struggle with balancing as the balance machines don't travel well.

Got 4 x Michelin Primacy (MO labelled) supplied and fitted by my dealer just £20 more than the cheapest tyre shop. Plus they detailed each rim and valetted the car! Top job :)

Yes, but then you have to pay the additional cost of getting them fitted and transporting them to get them fitted.
Mytyres will optionally send the tyres to the fitter rather than to you. Their prices include shipping but not fitting. Estimate £45 for fitting.

Thats what I heard, as the balencing machine is in a van, it's not on a level or solid platform, plus if they have the engine running while balencing..Well you can imagine how exact that can be.

Regarding the balance worry, my car has never felt so smoothe. Not the slightest vibration or shake at a steady 50-60, most common speed for vibration. Tried other speeds also, on several different road surfaces. Even on the concrete section of the M74 between Glasgow and Carlisle, which is notorious for vibration.
Perfect. Maybe I was lucky ??:bannana:
