Have a W211 with COMAND NTG1 but no phone prep :(

What are my options for a bluetooth phone connection that plays through car speakers? Steering wheel controls would be a nice to have, but not essential.

Thanks

As you have COMAND, the speakers are all wired to the amplifier which is in the back of the car.

Therefore to install a Parrot or a Bury, you are going to have to install an expensive SOT lead that has to be run from the front to the back of the car.

There is a properly integrated alternative that sits on the fibre optic network in your car and will upload the address book to the COMAND, and allow you to dial numbers from it;s keypad, and use the steering wheel controls - (i.e the factory fitted system features), but without the cost of the full factory fit system.

Fiscon Pro Bluetooth Phone Kit for Mercedes Benz (MOST based cars) | Phone System Retrofit Kits | Mercedes Retrofits | Comand Online Ltd

Not very tricky to fit, but you do need the instrument cluster coded to enable the steering wheel controls to work (unless you already have the Mercedes iPod kit installed)

Cheers

Richard

£350. Ouch!

Not sure I can get that past SuzyCute given that I just changed my car (AGAIN as she says! lol)

Looks just what is needed too :(

One of my friends always divides everything by 10 when telling his wife. He is consitant so never trips himself up.

She still got angry when he spent "£35" on a projector bulb "£35 for a light bulb!!!*!@!" though..

There's also the Dension box with Bluetooth for roughly the same money which gives their usual iPod etc access too but most interestingly you can add a dab module to it for £130 at a later date, everything running through the comand screen.

Boy did I get lucky :thumb: Won the Fiscon Pro at £105 total on ebay :D :bannana:

Some guy in London who said he bought it but it was never installed. Of course I remained a bit cynical but it arrived today and is in the original box and is mint. It has not been used as even the power cable bare ends are still straight and obviously never attached!

Couple of questions if I may (must say the installation instructions make it look remarkable easy)

Do I have the fiber optical loom on the head unit or not? (I have NTG1 with CD changer underneath and SatNav unit in boot)
Where is the best place to pick up power?
Ic cigar lighter whate are the wire colours?
Any general tips to make life easier?

Help appreciated

Yes you have fibre its what is connecting the CDC, the nav drive, the head unit and the AGW

Personally, i'd lose the CDC and enable the bluetooth audio streaming function of the Fiscon - but you don't have to. Fibre looms supplied with the Fiscon will make life easy for you.

Power is permanent not switched. Fusebox at end of dashboard, or if losing CDC get it from the CDC power

Tips to make life easier - get the installation instructions ! Original purchasor should have it, you can't download them from Fiscon without the original invoice number

Don't forget to have the cluster coded and the MOST ring coded correctly. W211 can behave a bit odd if MOST ring coded wrongly, and you need the cluster TEL menu to be there for the steering wheel controls to work. Its there if you have MB iPod kit installed already.

Cheers

Thanks Richard

He sent me the manual within 5 mins of winning! Will probably keep the CDC

How difficult is it to take the power from the fusebox? Is there anywhere easier for a klutz like me?

Ok, the CDC power feed is plenty big enough (and correctly fused) to feed both the CDC and the Fiscon

But, you are going to have to solder if you want it to work, The loom on the fiscon is thin, so you can't use scotchlocks or horrible things like that.

I am not confident on my soldering abilities/picking up power etc. so may leave this bit to someone else (uness someone knows an easy way for a klutz?!!)

If I install the actual Fiscon but do not power it at the moment, will COMAND still work as normal, just no phone connection as yet?

Thanls

Anybody?

If you have no other fibre devices, then if you install the FIscon in the fibre loop things will be OK because the Audio-20/COMAND is not expecting anything on the fibre loop.

If you have other fibre devices, and you add a device but don't power it up, then on Audio-20 those other devices (such as CD changer) won't work until there is power for the fiscon. If you have COMAND then nothing will work - it will display the Mercedes Star and then turn off again

Fiscon Pro installed and working a treat! A friendly MB mechanic set the MOST ring etc. for me on STAR. Don't think my phone (HTC Incredible)supports some of the Message features, but that's no big deal.

One odd thing is that when I turn off ignition the sound stops but screen stays on even when out of the car and it is locked. Seems to go out after a few moments - this normal behaviour?

Any ideas? I keep popping out to check it has gone off! lol

Hi Richard, according to your information looks like you have some knowledge about W211's, I'm wondering if I change the steering while airbag, steering wheel squib or the module do any of them need coding? this will help a lot if you have any idea about it. thank you in advance, K.I

Airbag module needs coding (using Online Star Diagnosis so it knows what stuff is in your car), and really the SCM which is part of the switch-pack around the steering wheel set needs coding if you change that (but not sure if you are doing that).
I'm pretty sure (but others please correct me!) that the airbag module is locked to the car - although it may just be the coding of what airbags etc is in the car is locked once initially done, and that after an airbag deployment the module must be replaced (i.e can't be reset, apart from just the risk that the electronics that triggered the bag may be fried)

Let me tell you the full story, I bought a 2004 W211 which was front damaged and I repaired it, the steering wheel airbag was deployed and I changed it, to a second hand one after few days I realised that the horn and the buttons on the steering don't work, even the buttons don't glow at night which they should do. I started looking online but I cannot find anything like mine.
I used a "xentry" and we got this message "LIN BUS communication error' code 9001" someone on here told me that this code is showing to be the steering module, any idea how do I code that?

Thank you,

K.I
