LPG/Autogas Conversions

silverarrow said:
umm i have been told that lpg runs hotter and can damage the engine in the long run something to do with valve burn out
certain engines ok as they have uprated parts
i have seen many range rovers on gas and they seem ok :(

as for who uses the euro star me
hate the ferry makes me sick
but flying ok

I was told the same by Dualfuel who are doing mine mainly Ford's Zetec engine for some reason? The use some form of automatic oil lubrication on the valves in this type of engine but they assured me that Merc's are fine and do not need this.

My Indy told mt that the Platinum Spark plugs tend to wearout a lot quicker, and apparently theres 12 on the ML... still the savings still out weight the down sides!

Hi,

LPG works very well providing a good LPG injection system is used, rather than the old fashioned evaporator systems. As usual the mapping of the LPG injection systems is of vital importance. On the MBs I would advise going for a 1 grade colder spark plugs.

The system I would use would be Vialle.

http://www.vialle.nl/

Their system uses an actual pump to ensure that the gas arrives at the injectors in liquid form, aiding cooling when injected into the inlet.

Cheers,

Job

Hi all,

Well my car has gone in today for it's LPG conversion to DualFuel in Woking, I am now a proud  tempory owner of a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi twinport hire car! I hate to think how slow the single port was :D

Will let you know how I get on when it comes back (Thurs or Friday)

Blicky,
How are you finding the world of LPG ?
I hope all is running smoothly!

Not quite at the mo!!

Car is done and I have it back but LPG system is off as the new LPG ECU is faulty. They can not upload the modified settings for the Kompressor engine into the ECU as it's not shutting down.

Can't fault the guys at DualFuel as they worked until 9pm on it Friday night (while I waited) and Sat morning, The are goint to contact manufacturer tomorrow for the replacement. Luckly the manufacturer/importer is 5mls up the road from where I work :D

The weekend has given me a good chance to have a look over the system (before I paid for it!) they have fitted and all looks good, nice and tidy work!

Hopefully should be up and running sometime tomorrow if the part is available

UPDATE....

Yesterday DualFuel tried to update the ECU with another file but will still not shut down. They did have it up and running on LPG but was lumpy due to the wrong file type in the ECU.

My car is now going into the importer/manufacturer (NME, http://www.nicholsonmclaren.com/Alternative Fuels.htm) in Finchampstead, Berkshire tomorrow where tech guys are going to totaly reload the LPG ECU. DualFuel are picking up the car and dropping off a hire car.

Apparently they are very secretive about what they do with the programming of the ECU and do not allow the installers of their equipment to fully adjust all settings just some of them! I guess it will be worth the visit as it will be fully set up on their rolling road.

I am starting to wonder what i have let myself in for now!! But the costs still outweigh the inconvenience in the long run.

Next update tomorrow :o

I'm on LPG!! :bannana:

Car was only at the NME for 1hr and it was fixed!!

After filling up (£20 :D ) it seems to make all the inconvenience go away very quickly!!

Done 50mls since and all seems OK, NO difference in performance at all. Best bit was driving home and the petrol gage not moving :D

Will report back once a few more miles on the clock.

Well finished the first tank of LPG, 310mls for £20 cant remember the last time that happened!! :D

Useless facts #332671

Latest in a series of useless facts, #332671:

Nicholson Mclaren design, develop & build engines based on the Cosworth-Ford DFV. They supply TGP Thoroughbred Grand Prix, le Mans and British Hillclimb Championship teams

I think it's fair to say that they know what they're on about!

:D Just a shame they didnt when supplying my LPGA approved installer with the wrong file type for the SGI ecu!!

Still after all that I'm very pleased with the system so far and have already saved £50 this week compaired to unleaded motoring (and only started using on Wednesday!!):D
