LPG Conversion

Owning a car in the 21rst century

Dieselman Copiertech well done guys :) :) This is such an interesting thread because it touches on so many sensitive issues which effect us all. Fuel taxation and the devastating effect it can have on peoples lives and business. A mistrust of the dead hand of government bureaucracy. A genuine concern for environmental issues and responsibility for future generations. A justified scepticism of the motives of international oil conglomerates and the governments they influence. You have to wonder about the long term future of the private motorist in this country. An old codger like me has bad memories of petrol coupons and rationing in the 70s. At that time the prospect of a car with an alternative fuel system would have been quite attractive :D :D If forums like this can help people get by and still enjoy driving their Mercedes then great :bannana: :bannana:

Just been to Morrisons 44P/l own brand veg oil :D

Just need to get that oil burner.

read that earlier. One of my hauliers is planning to join the protest  How many will follow suit is another matter though.

Vauxhall still offer LPG

With all the talk about LPG I thought I would do some research especially with people saying it is no longer supported by Vauxhall. Whilst I trawled over the Vauxhall website I could find no offerings of LPG vehicles but likewise no news that they were discontinuing it. With that I decided to contact Vauxhall and here is the reply.

Dear Mr Thomas

Thank you for your recent email.

From September 2005, an operational change means that LPG vehicles can now be purchased from your Vauxhall Dealer.

In the case of a new vehicle, the dealer will order a suitable petrol vehicle from Vauxhall Motors with a request that the vehicle be delivered to our LPG conversion specialist team at Millbrook. The vehicle will then be converted at Millbrook.

You, as the customer, will pay the dealer for both the base vehicle and the LPG conversion. This is how the LPG program has run for several years. The only difference for the dealer is in having to raise an extra order for Millbrook for the conversion. The difference to the customer is that the warranty for the LPG conversion will be supplied by Millbrook instead of being included in the overall vehicle warranty.

A used vehicle can also be purchased from a dealer who will arrange for an LPG conversion. This is handled in the same way as a new vehicle but with Vauxhall Motors being left out of the process. The warranty, which is included in the conversion price, on the LPG conversion fitted to a used vehicle is one year or 60,000 miles. This warranty can be extended to two years and 80,000 miles or three years and 100,000 miles and prices for extended warranty can be confirmed by our LPG Specialist team at Millbrook (the contact telephone number is at the foot of this email).

We recommend that any customer wishing to have a vehicle converted to LPG calls the Millbrook team prior to purchasing the vehicle, so as to ensure that the model is included in our range.

As a GM Company, the Millbrook team is committed to upholding the GM/Vauxhall quality standard. To meet this standard all equipment is designed and engineered for each particular Vauxhall model. The professional conversion team is experienced in dealing with new vehicles. Vehicle panels are protected before any work is started and all team members wear suitable overalls to prevent vehicle damage such as paint scratching.

Most aftermarket converters use generic kits that in many cases do not meet the low emission levels required to meet EST band four requirements. This is the level required to qualify for London Congestion Charge relief. All Vauxhalls converted at Millbrook meet this demanding standard.

The warranty offered on Millbrook conversions is unequalled among aftermarket LPG converters.

A Certificate of Conformity that is recognised by the DVLA, the Energy Saving Trust and Transport for London is issued for each aftermarket vehicle conversion.

Our LPG team at Millbrook can be contacted via the means listed below:

Thank you for writing and allowing me to clarify the position on LPG Vauxhall vehicles.

Kind regards

Customer Care

I for my part can recommend LPG , I have been running my 96 E200 for 3 years now with LPG , I cover about 22-25k a year and have had no issues with the sequential system that was fitted . I have a 55L doughnut tank in place of the spare wheel and have mounted the filler onto my towbar (no holes in bodywork). It cost £1600 to have it fitted and returns about 25mpg on gas verses 29 on petrol. If you do the sums it's quite a saving.
