Luton Airport car park fire

Interestingly, when I first heard the news of this early today, the reporter said that it was thought to have started with an electric vehicle fire. However, on the BBC 1 o’clock news it was reported as starting in a diesel car. And mentioned as such several times! I can’t help thinking that they’d been instructed to make the change rather than add further to the anti-EV concerns! Why else emphasise the fuel type of the vehicle?
I get a hint that the BBC are tools
of the state.

RT got hoofed for that.

Not really, EV's generally are in the hands of higher mileage drivers because of the income tax and corporation tax avoidance.

It'll be quite a while before EV's reach the occasional, "second car." 18-24, and 70+ demographics.

.
My bro in laws EQC is used for local trips and into the ULEZ areas. It’s his company car.

Their E350 diesel is used for longer trips and where they don’t have to enter ULEZ.

I agree.

Data from Tesla:
Exactly, bearing in mind that Teslas are, on average, just over a year old and in the hands of the well-heeled (well-tyred?).

Haven't Tesla sold 2.5 million vehicles in the States, of which half were sold this last twelve months.

Whereas ICE vehicles in the States average 12.5 years old, and in the hands of much poorer people, well out of manufacturer's warranty, and far more likely to be suffering from amateur or insufficient maintenance.

A fifteen year old, badly maintained vehicle is more likely to catch fire than one that's less than a year old and still under warranty.

Yes. A high voltage EV's fire is ferocious, intense, can last for hours, and requires specialist training for the Fire Crew.

A petrol explosion - rare and straightforward.

Have you ever seen 70L of Diesel oil burning? It's a massive bonfire that lasts for hours. And people die just from breathing the thick black smoke. Of course, it can be extinguished with the right kit, but it's not survivable if you're caught up in it before the fire is put out.

Plus there's plenty of mid term and long term car parks. People will simply have to park further away from the terminal building and take the shuttle bus.
And Thameslink trains!! Or a taxi which is what we got the other day.

The train goes to Luton Parkway where you need to take a bus to the terminal, a bit of a chore if you have suitcases etc, I don't know why they're not building a train station at the airport.

Well apart from the resale value of EV's going down the toilet, and their insurance going through the roof and the cost of charging them around the country costing more everything is ok if this RR was a diesel, the sale of EV's has stalled and after today I suggest that many frankly crazy buyers may well cancel a order, because the case against running a EV there for all to see,and this RR just might be one of those new EV's I hope not, hate to hit a man/EV when he/it is down

Of course we’ve all seen cars catch fire.

The point here is that the fire Services have been saying for years that EVs in close proximity create catastrophic risk in enclosed spaces.

You think the diesel had a full tank? Seems unlikely.

More likely, this diesel hybrid caught fire because of its high voltage electrics and battery

You reckon??

I do. If you get an EV on a lease then you don't care about depreciation, and regarding future insurance price hikes this hasn't actually happened yet. But this does not stop people from making odd comments.

Deposit price and monthly price please. Small vehicle.

I’ll just add I just got my Tesla insured for 15% less than last year. 👍
