My 1996 E280T has had an erratic oil pressure gauge since I bought it, and it could be a number of things, but I guess the sensor is a good place to start.. Unfortunately, new ones are about 10% of the value of the car!

Does anyone have a used one that works please?

Try cleaning the SENSOR connection electrical contacts often the source of erratic readings.

Thanks Graeme. Funny you should say that, my mechanic (non MB) had a quick look whilst he is replacing the discs and pads, but couldn't find it. Any ideas as to where it's located please?

Thanks again! (sorry for double posting)

Thanks again! I think they are about £60 odd. A bit of a fiddle to check the connection from above with a hot engine, so will have a look tomorrow under a ramp.

Check the wiring going to it. From memory I think it's a small loom that's separate from the main loom but made from the same crumbling wire. Even if your engine loom has been changed this small loom might not have been.

Ta! It's actually a bit of a fiddle to get to, and my non MB mechanic couldn't loosen it yesterday when changing the oil. I think I'll get my indie to have a look at some point. Me and spanners don't get on!

Result! I put the part no. into ebay, and found a Swiss seller offering a brand new one. I paid £16.60 odd, inc delivery. Fitted this morning. Have a look at the gauge now!
