My car is taking an age to warm up on these less than pleasant days. I think it's safe to assume the thermostat is past its teutonic prime.

I freely admit this is the worst type of forum question because I could get off my lazy behind and go look but ........

Where is it?

Any hints or tips for changing it?

Open housing. Replace thermostat. - Is it that sort of a job? The simpler the better. I'd like to minimize outside time given the weather.

I have the M112 engine in one of my cars and I too am experiencing some temperature issues. These engines do tend to have a slow warm up in my experience, especially in winter. However, mine seems to "stick" partially open if the temperature rises in traffic and causes the car to run a little too cool for quite a few miles after the traffic clears. Sometimes it won't re-set until it's cooled down completely and is then ok for a while until the next traffic jam. To answer the op's question, it's sort of on top of the engine adjacent to the water pump near to the engine end of the top hose. I think it might be supplied in a housing as some kind of assembly @ about £50 but I've been watching this thread in anticipation of someone more knowledgeable giving some input. Other than that, I can't help. I might get my indy to change it next time it goes in for something.

I can drive enthusiastically for 30 minutes or more before it's fully warmed up. Definitely too slow. Winter woolies needed too.

Let's see if we get an answer.

from the look of the guide its a really easy quick job. shouldnt take no more than 30 mins (including brew makin time lol)

Thanks to Jay for the detailed link. Simples! Gadget boy, if yours takes 1/2 hour of enthusiastic driving then there's definately somethin wrong. In winter mine will take about 20 mins or 7 miles to get to normal. I think yours is stuck open or partially open whereas mine only seems to stick temporarily after it's got slightly hotter than normal.
