The hotel is right at the back of Bell Weir Lock.

AFAIK the large gas main crosses the river underneath the M25 flyover which is about 100 yards downstream of the lock.

I expect it will be nice and quiet on the river there today

If the wind was blowing gas over the motorway then car engines are a source of ignition, not diesels though.

Russ

Sadly not. Diesel engine runaway can be real problem in conditions where you have a high concentration of hydrocarbon (i.e gas) in the air. Effectively you have got an external fuel source and turning off the ignition switch or fuel system will not stop it. So in places like drill sites, refineries or gas terminals you find safety certified diesel engines that in addition to other safety measures have an engine air cut off valve.

Could try to deliberately stall the engine or stuff yer sock into the air intake but might not have long to do that because if there is enough gas in the air the engine is sucking in it will self fuel with no control over rpm until it lets go.

You would need to have a lot of gas in the air though.

This seriously fecked up the traffic in W London last night - so glad I don't have a dog otherwise I would have missed the cremated remains of my dinner...............:crazy::crazy::crazy:
