Folks

I suspect my car hasn't been serviced as it should have been from the private trader I bought from. Just checked the air filters and both seem old..oil also seems a little dark for something only 100 miles old so I'm going to oil change myself.

82k on the clock so which oil would you suggest from the above. I've always used castrol 10/40 in the past but should the amg require a more specialist oil?

Thanks

Mobil 1 only. Its the best oil for your 55 and is used worldwide by MB dealers. It takes about 7.5 litres.

It is a fantastic well engineered oil.

Mobil 1 is pretty much the standard. I know of plently of enthusiasts with AMGs that use a Castrol RS 10w-60 fully synthetic oil.

mobil 1 is the best to use in 55 engines

thanks..5/30 or 0/40?

anyone buy in to the 0/40 being too thin for high miler theory? I'm getting very paranoid with this car but unless im standing right next to the mechanic whilst changing i always suspect and i cant afford for anything to go wrong.

Suppose the oil change is easy enough as can see the oil filter housing right at the top..

cheers

cheers again.

Got a couple of ramps so i think ill stick with the sump method..plus ive not got a drainer anyway. Oil filter seems easy enough though.

Air filter looks like a pig to get off though!

i think with the AMG engine it may require thiner oil, but with the normal stock engines i have beed advised taht 10w-40 is more than sufficient.

MB are using 0w-30 at the moment, but this all changes when they renew theor contracts with the supplier.

When i bought my C class 1999 MB was using 10w-40 for everything, i think it cahnges as to what is beneficial for them
