Manufacturing or repair welding?

I am trying to provide some snaps of what I saw today underneath the boot on the final differential but I didn't bring my camera cable to download the snaps.

I noticed there are some weldings on the aluminium rear chassis. How do I ascertain the weldings are manufacturing weldings in contrast from some dodgy repaired weldings?

Get underneath again, take some pictures and post them up here for our perusal.

Strange, can you host a pic.? Normally the arm would bend before breaking and welding wouldn't be cost effective, they are easy to replace.

How are you getting on with having the paint measured.? Let me know if really struggling, you can borrow my PTG, but I need it back soon as.

Do you need to measure on aluminium or steel, it can do both.?

Where can I buy a PTG(what is stands for?)? Don't know probably steel for W211.

Paint thickness gauge. Look on ebay or www.detailingworld.com. They aren't cheap though.

If your car has some filler in the C-pillar it may be that it's had a new rear wing as that is where they make the join and it needs a skim of filler to cover it.
Any exidence of a new wing being welded on or differretn paint thicknesses on the C pillar?

Dragon.. you worry too much.. :bannana:

It common to have rusts over the wheel arches. I went to Merc to have it done under warranty and he pointed it had been repaired and therefore will not do it under warranty. This is where he pointed the rear pillars readings. We went to check with another 2004 W211 on the forecourt, and the readings were continuous.

He is yet to get back to me on the history of the car.

Went to get MOT today and it passes so the car is not dodgy. :D
